My Crazy Workouts
Written By Sidney Rice
March 27, 2009

There’s talk that the Vikings might pick a wide receiver in the draft. Truth is, it doesn’t really bother me. I want them to do whatever they think is going to help the team out the most.

All I can do is get myself ready for the season the best way I know how. We’re not due back for offseason training until April 6, so I’ve been in Miami working out hard with Marion Barber of the Cowboys and his brother Dominique who plays for the Texans.

This workout is the hardest I’ve ever done.

About every time I do it, I throw up.

This has been a typical day for me lately:

10 a.m. Grab a light breakfast

10:30 Head down to the spa into the steam room for 20-30 minutes, just to get a sweat. I do some stretching in there and pound some water to hydrate

11 Head over to Legacy Fit (www.legacyfit.com) in Miami to work out with trainer Manning Summer and the Barbers

Our workout is different every day, we use sleds, climb ropes to the ceiling, pushups, running, jumping rope. Pushing the sleds kills me every time. We’re slamming balls into each other, and there aren’t too many breaks as you go through the circuit.

Everybody throws up almost every time we go through it.

I’ll be there a couple days next week, then take it up to Minnesota around April 3. We have to be there on the 6th but I want to get there a couple days early.

When I’m not working out I’m just relaxing, sitting back watching basketball, trying not to do too much. Going out at night and then my workout in the morning just don’t mix.

After working out with the team I think I’ll come back down to Miami and get back to Legacy for some more workouts before we have to meet up in Minnesota again. Me and Marion have been talking about getting back down here for a couple weeks.

Even when I’m in Minnesota I hope to bring some of the things I’ve learned from my trainer and try to do them on my own. It won’t be as intense because he won’t be in my ear yelling, but I know I’ve got to try it to better myself.

It’s a crazy workout, I’ve never seen nothing like it. But I know it’s good for me, and if I can be persistent with it I’ll be in the best shape of my life when the season starts.

Now that's just being wasteful.

One could easily say that Marion's workouts are... barbaric.

I wouldn't be suprised if we see a Marion with a little more explosion and top end speed, if he continues that type of workout...one can only hope...

I'm sure Barber has been doing this for years. He's been noted as a workout freak since as a sophomore in high school, when he won some strength/endurance competition at his school that, besides him, had always been won by seniors.

edit: And Barber doesn't need any more speed or explosion. He's extremely explosive as is. The only way to make him better is to cut his workload back. He runs with too much abandon to pace himself.

Let's make it easier for him and the offense by letting him play by instinct and not make him have to worry about his sustainability as a workhorse. He can't do it--he just isn't wired that way.

The 'glow' in everyone's eyes make the pic even more satanic looking than the kick to the groin. :p: And who is she trying to emulate anyway? Nick Folk? :lmao:

Agreed good post.

But don't cut his carries back to much. Teams fear him and thats a good enough reason as any to feed him the rock.

It's nice to see that a young guy like Rice is getting it and realises the harder he works then he'll put himself in the best position to be the best he can be on the field. Good job to Rice. We already knew that Barber was a workout freak, so that doesn't surprise me in the least.

Few thoughts.

I liked Rice a lot coming out of SC, he was a playmaker in the SEC against double coverages with Blake Mitchell throwing him ducks. Poor guy, gets drafted to WR purgatory - Chicago was WR hell for quite some time.

Barber is an absolute workout warrior, he's a guy I don't worry about missing voluntary workouts.

And most of yall wanna trade him. Chea, get rid of one of our hardest working, most productive players we've had in 10 years.

Define "define".

The large majority on this board that thinks we should get the best out of Barber while we still can before he wears down. Or at least thats how it seems. I'm a part of the minority that thinks he has several good years left with a star on his helmet. Unless someone gives us something we can't refuse, you just don't trade a guy that has been one of the, if not, the most productive Cowboy in 5 years.

Agreed. That's how it may seem.

I have zero proof to go by, but I believe that the majority of the board's membership shares your opinion.

Oh there is a trade Barber group that lurks on here.

Not the majority though.

I mean this is the same board that has people who want to trade Witten.
