Blogging the Boys - 5 WRs Dallas Cowboys should consider trading for post-draft

Let's face it-- we're not all that close to contending.

So does it make sense to give up resources for a number 2 when 31yo Amari Cooper is still out there?
I'm in agreement with that thought process. There should be some wr options after cutdown for the league. I see some teams with a glut of wrs that won't all be able to be kept.

I suspect we will make zero trades. Stephen will come out right before camp waxing on about how impressive that Mingo and Tolbert has looked. Blah, blah, blah.

But Pierce and Sutton are intriguing if the price is right. Pickens might be the most talented of that group (even moreso than Hill given the age difference) but he's also the biggest mental midget.

Pierce is who I'd choose since he's still young but would probably cost the most draft capital. Sutton would be the most obtainable, but contract is up after this season. QJ would just frustrate everyone with his inconsistency but I'd be open to it. The rest are just headaches.

No to Hill, too much $$ and issues.
No to Pickens as he is a knucklehead and bad teammate and would not be good in locker room.
No to Johnson as he dropped everything last year.
I like Sutton and Pierce but are you only getting them for a year? Dont see them paying big money for a WR when they have to pay an enormous contract to Parsons.

It does because everyone is “close to contending” I just don’t agree with that. It doesn’t take 10 years like Garrett tried to tell us with his process crap.

Save the draft pick. We all know how it felt just losing a 4th each of the last 2 years.

If you want a WR, just sign a FA.

Cooper was horrible last year. At 31, I'm not sure I'd expect a bounce back unless we knew it was injury related. By the end of the year Buffalo barely seemed to look his way. No interest.

Do we know Pickens is a bad teammate and locker room problem or we just looking at him not being able to control his emotions on the field at times? I’m wondering if there are legit stories about him in the locker room and being a bad teammate. Maybe I missed something.

That’s why it’s important to have a strong coach who controls the locker room and not the owner. If we went by this logic then Jimmy would have never made the trade for Charles Haley,

There truly is no one of note left for what Cowboys would need. Cutdown day, might produce something of interest

I mean, there is a reason why Steelers trying to trade him. If anyone can see the writing on the wall before others, Steelers are the team lol

I realize I’m in the minority….nearly all of y’all want to be as good as possible right now….but I have little desire to add veteran skill pieces until you’re ready to win. They aren’t.

I’d rather take a longer look at Mingo. Yeah I get that it’s doubtful he becomes a capable 2, but then they shouldn’t have dealt for him. He hasn’t even played with Dak yet.

This is the one I wanna see if we are giving up any compensation, otherwise, sign Coop.
Remember, Jerry said a trade could happen before or after the draft. We will see....

Maybe, but they also have to pay Metcalf now and like his talent better. Who knows, if there are no legit stories I think you take the chance if it’s a 3rd round pick. Nothing higher IMO

I do remember how he is known for always being late/tardy to meetings/travel, disrespecting coaches, along with all his bonehead in-game penalties where Tomlin was like he needs to grow up. You also saw all that with his body language during the game towards everyone especially the qb, would be a regular thing knowing how Dak loves the behind the player throws if he came here.
So giving anything higher than a 5th, much less a 3rd, would be ridiculous especially knowing they'd have to give him a contract next year and figure out if he's going to be a higher character guy for the duration of it. Highly doubt it.

It depends. If I can get Sutton or Pierce for a 4th rounder, I likely would do it (granted, I doubt you could get either for that). Both are way more proven than Mingo.
