Blogging the Boys - 5 WRs Dallas Cowboys should consider trading for post-draft

I'd take a shot at QJ. The drops are bad, but they say our new WR coach is great at developing WRs. Though I guess that's still not much of an improvement vs Mingo

Let's face it-- we're not all that close to contending.

So does it make sense to give up resources for a number 2 when 31yo Amari Cooper is still out there?
we are by no means ready to compete. if anyone says otherwise, they don't get NFL football. this defense is far far far from being to compete in the playoffs. so why trade for a couple of players that are in the last year of their contract? makes no sense. reminds me of the lance trade....and didn't we already trade for Mingo? why then make another trade. its either admitting the trade for mingo was bad and stupid or we are adding more stupidity on top of stupidity. and the other 2 in the list are no different than what's on our roster....

at this point trading for another WR is stupid.

It does because everyone is “close to contending” I just don’t agree with that. It doesn’t take 10 years like Garrett tried to tell us with his process crap.
I'm not saying it takes 10 years, but the same roster problems that have prevented us from advancing to a champ game are still present with no apparent solve this year, or maybe even next.

At best we could probably hope to be as competitive as the 2021-2023 squads, but they weren't true contenders for the same reasons.

We don’t know that.

There are 1-2 new teams in the playoffs every year.
Right. We won 7 games last year and didn’t have our QB and lost our WR at the end. We also played mostly backups at Corner all season.

what kind of nonsense is this? EVERY year teams go from crap to "Contending," as well as from contending to crap.

You cant say what we will or wont do this next season, so to just give up already? Wth???

So who are the "Contenders?" Did you predict Washington would "Contend," last year?"

this is it. what do we think we are? are we 3 years away from being a legit threat? i dont trade resources but i also dont sign an aging vet. let our young guys sink or swim

"True contenders." I love it...lol

well if we are no threat to win, we shouldnt have a single vet not named Lamb, Parsons, or Dak on the roster. Use nothing but 1st year contract players. That and a lot of booze to watch the games on Sunday, not to just deal with the loses, but the misery surrounding this forum with that kind of lineup.

Their problems the trenches and they improved their trenches from last year. How much? I don’t know. Teams are gonna have weaknesses. Eagles and Commanders both have them. Commanders went into this offseason needing a pass rush and came out of it not adding anything but actually losing Fowler. Cowboys need to over come their flaws. Not succumb to them. Because if they are waiting to be perfect they will always be waiting.

remember we are in a rebuilding year

we are in a rebuilding year for the past 30 years. so be patient
;)

Right. We won 7 games last year and didn’t have our QB and lost our WR at the end. We also played mostly backups at Corner all season.
so this year, the DL is worse. the LBs are worse. the safties were non-existent and got worse as they are older. Cbs are coming off injuries and may not start the season and the guy we drafted is going to be on PUP list to start the season.

we threw numbers at the RB position hoping to hit on one. seemingly no answer.
stephen thinks one of the 5 other WRs can be a #2...he is not confident in who, just hoping one of them does.
the QB is coming off a major injury. is a year older.
whole new defensive scheme.
new head coach.

giants have improved and closed the gap.

looks like another 6-7 win season at best.

Sweet, we arent close to being relevant, lets trade for some jags.

thats a solid plan guys.

Why trade when you can grab cooper or Allen in free agency for a year rental and preserve draft picks.

Well, there's more to it than making the trade or getting a free agent if you wait long enough which we should because we need all these guys to get the practice reps no need to rush and go add a player right now unless you can get them on an almost zero guarantee contract bring them in pay structure ie production based.

But the third option is wait, because there are guys, that I remember back in 2023 the DeAndre Hopkins flat out was just released cut from the Cardinals, that's going to happen now that the draft is over now the teams are looking at their undrafted free agents to roster and their salary cap there's going to be a good player or two just shockingly released and the Cowboys could pick him up...

But if they can make a trade say for a 5th rounder like they did for Brandon Cooks or something like 5th or a 6th rounder why not because then again that'll be the team looking to flat out release their player, but you can just offer him a low round pick.

There's plenty of options out there...

Save the draft pick. We all know how it felt just losing a 4th each of the last 2 years.

If you want a WR, just sign a FA.
We need to save all the picks we can for next year. Phenoms Jeremiah Smith with THE OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY and acrobatic Ryan Williams with THE CRIMSON TIDE could enter the draft early. Pair either with Lamb? Talk about dynamic duo.

By the way I look at it every years of one off so whatever happened last year doesn't matter but what did really happen is we had 18 injuries across the board some ravaged some positions completely we used practice squad players most of the year lost year starting quarterback your best receiver was banged up et cetera et cetera and somehow we won seven games if you can win 7 games in that scenario you for sure can make a push for one of the wild card spots..

I think too many people are making predictions based off what happened last year it doesn't matter what happened last year this roster somehow last year with just about everything that can go wrong 17 games sometimes it only takes nine games at most 10 to get into the playoffs that's all you need is a shot playing your best ball going into the playoffs. I'm in no way saying we're going to be a playoff team i'm saying we're closer to that team that finished off a 36 win two division title three straight playoff run That was the meat in between the sandwich with the injury years, 2020 and again in 2024 .. So somehow, we have our quarterback who's never had a losing season if we don't have a catastrophic amount of injuries we typically make the playoffs..
