Good read about how our coaches use the talent we accumulate (skip the BW Webb part)

Why skip the part about the draft bust?

I love how that article painted Webb as some victim.

Fact is, he was a small college CB who struggled when asked to step his game up. He was a soft and clueless and clearly lacked confidence. Either Dallas' scouts or coaches (or both) blew it.

Exactly. He's not worth the brain cells and wasn't the reason why I thought the article would be enjoyable reading. Bit who knows, some people may be into S&M.

I liked how it called out the Skins & Eagles.

Blogging the boys writers are notorious Garrett fanboys. They will spin anything and everything he does into a positive

He was a good slot corner but the team wasn't talented enough to keep him as a specialty player and instead had to play him outside where he couldn't play well enough. The point was use of specialty packages and players and having a team with the ability to hang on and use players like that.

McClay said that he would like to avoid drafting specialty players and used Webb as an example.

I reality Webb was just not that good even as a slot/nickel CB.

I remember the Senior bowl practice drills where JJ Wilcox was better than Webb covering the same WRs.

I get wanting to play the Devil's Advocate on a forum, which exists for the sole purpose of debate. I don't understand what problem Cowboys fans have with blog sites that write nothing but positive articles for fans who want to be positive. I don't read Blogging The Boys because I don't find most of the takes all that interesting, but there's nothing wrong with the format or the content beyond the fact that it was intended for a specific audience.

And since when did Cowboys fans become 'notorious' for supporting a popular and fairly successful young head coach who's shown an aptitude for assembling talent and for managing Jerry Jones? I'd say it's more accurate that, even in a 12-4 off season we've got some fans who are notorious for dumping on the team simply because they like to dump.

He didn't play well as a slot corner his first year? I agree he wasn't that good but most corners don't play well for a year or two no matter where they went to school or how high they are drafted.

To me it pushes group think. Thats why im now long a fan of the site (although I do enjoy a few bloggers still on staff ). To me it just doesn't have a broad enough view.

As for Garrett. There is nothing wrong to me in Garrett Fan and there is nothing wrong with being a Garrett Detractor. Personally I tend to be somewhat fickle where I fall on, although my issues with him ( game management, play calling ) were either improved or given to someone else in 2014 ( if you ask me, HC's shouldn't be calling plays). But there is difference between a Fan and a Fanboy and a Detractor and a Hater, 'can do no wrong' ' can do no right'. BTB writers fall in the latter here, and as a reader, it gives them credibility issues

Not unreasonable. I don't think they necessarily encourage groupthink. Their serving the content their audience wants to read, but that audience is pretty like-minded already. I just think it happens to be boring reading nothing but positive commentary. But there's a lot to be positive about with these Cowboys right now. It'd be different for me if I saw a lot of them taking something that deserves criticism and trying to paint that as a positive. That stuff drives me nuts. Just ding the organization for what it does poorly. Appreciate what they do well, and understand that a sizable chunk of what they do is going to be indeterminate for a season or two as it shakes out.

I don't think they're that bad although I agree some of it is BR bad. But the general media is bad at times, too. You just have to know enough to filter the good out.

Blogging the Boys was really good until about 2 years ago and then it really went way too far defending the boys in general and Garrett in particular.

Lets be blunt - up until last season most cowboy fans were distinctly underwhelmed by Garrett.

This year will really tell the tale about him- was last year a one year Perfect Storm or was it really the beginning of our next dynasty.

One year perfect storm? Hardly. Now that could have been said had Sean Lee been healthy, had we been able to retain Ware, or Jason Hatcher. One or the other. We had just come off a historically bad performance on defense the year before. We had no clue Zach Martin would be as good as he turned out, or that Frederick could improve even more so than the previous campaign. Same goes for Free. I have to say it, this was a process, and it's working for the Cowboys. I'm a believer.

I believe our players, now more than ever, understand what it takes to win and weather the storm of an NFL season.

Yes, we could take a step back next season, but if we do, it will only be due to uncontrollable injuries. If we can remain healthy, especially at all key positions, I feel we'll contend for the entire enchilada.

But last year was definitely not the perfect storm, where the stars aligned in our favor. This was a team in the making. A process that is coming to fruition before our very eyes. I'm enjoying the return of the Dallas Cowboys. The other teams and their fans are not.
