Like many, I use to watch Channel 8 and Hansen years ago. He has become fat, old, bald, bitter and lazy. He is no longer the big rating's grab that he was 10-12 years ago. Sports Special was THE place for Cowboy's coverage. That is ancient history. I rarely watch local TV sports anymore... for that matter I rarely watch local TV for news anymore. Why bother. You can get everything you need, in real time, online. Other media outlets, i.e. radio, TV, newspapers are yesterday's news... literally.
At least Babe, on Fox 4, comes across as likeable and doesn't excude a sense of self importance and ego and he attends the daily press conferences during the season. He does his job as a sports journalist, as opposed to a mere "talking head".
Hasbeen, on the other hand, will make a rare appearance only to grandstand in front of Parcells and the "little people" of the local media outlets. "I am Hansen, hear me roar"! The funny, yet sad thing is that nobody cares, anymore. The once Emperor, has no clothes. It boggles my mind that Channel 8 pays him the amount of money they do. Why?!! No one watches him anymore.
I even had to stop listening to The schTickets Cowboy's post game show last year. Hasbeen MUST be the center of attention... even on a little local "sports" radio show. The other member's would begin to voice their opinions on the game results and Hasbeen would invariably jump in and cut them off with his self important observations. Hasbeen has no connection to the team, few contacts in the front office anymore, does not attend press conferences, no connections with CURRENT players and the Coach... ? I think you all know the answer to that one. Jones, being the class individual that he is, will be polite to him... but Hasbeen will get nothing exclusive.
Hasbeen is bitter. His role as TV sports King, in this area, has diminished. His ties to one of the most recognizable sport's franchises in the world, are few. His enormous ego has deflated, ever so slightly. My God, he was fired from the laughable Ticket!
Watch him? NO. Feel sorry for him? I don't think so. He'll spend all of two days at training camp and never step foot on the practice field. Fly home (first class, of course) and stop by the bank on the way home, to deposit his well earned and sizeable BELO pay check... laughing all the way and laughing at YOU, as well.
Sincerely,
Scott (at least I still have hair) Murray
