Blu ray pulling even further ahead

With warner Bros, and New Line cinema announcing there exclusive support for blu ray, Hd Dvd is being left even further behind.

Yeah, this war has been over for awhile now. Paramount had to drag it on a bit, and make it a little more interesting, but now there is no doubt.

Now down the road if they make a player that plays both the blu-rays and regular ones, if they don't alreayd, and I finally get a HD tv...then I might buy one of the players.

It is like the whole Cassette CD situation. I had hundreds of tapes. Slowly started moving to CDs.

Then the VHS, luckily I did not have as many, but now I have a buttload of DVDs and I am not going to start all over for blu ray that is priced WAY too high right now.

They for sure have atleast one blu ray player that also plays dvd, called the ps3 , which i have. Also, why buy dvd's (movies)? Is it just me or are they the biggest waste of money? They will be on tv in acouple of months and after you watch them once maybe twice there complete trash.

There are some movies I watch quite a bit.

For instance...band of brothers and Shogun I watch at the very least once a year...some times more.

There are Blu Ray players that play regular DVDs. I think most do, in fact. I believe some actually upconvert to a 1080p signal as well.

And the price is dropping dramatically. I think they are running $299 most places now.

They ALL do both. I have a ton of DVDs, but I don't feel a need to replace all of them. I simply buy new movies in HD format, and upgrade a select few DVDs. Most I will keep as regular DVD, but I haven't bought a new DVD for nearly a year now, everything is HD.

This is why HD media hasn't been more successful. These companies have done a horrible job in educating the general public.

Every Blu-ray player can read DVDs also.

Exactly, I'm going to buy a PS3 because of the Blue Ray format. I'm getting a video game system and a Blue ray player in one. I can still play all my old DVD's on them but when deciding to buy a new DVD, I will buy the Blue Ray version. And I'm glad they have Blue Ray. Some of these older DVD's have a lot of problems and skip etc. I invested in Sony 2 years ago and people were saying that Sony was a risky proposition because of their gamble in Blue Ray and assuming that it would be the major medium for DVD's. People cited the Beta Max as the failed Sony project. Let's just say, I was happy with that stock

I'm just a firm believer in Sony products. You can always get televisions with better picture and better equipment but Sony lasts. I still have a 9 year old 52 inch projection television that still works and has a better picture than my friends 52 inch Pioneer elite which is 5 years younger. Their products are built to last. My 5 disc Sony CD player from when I was a teenager still works, it's 19 years old.

Of course, if you want to hedge your bets, buy the LG player that is compatible with both formats.

I'm just a firm believer in Sony products. You can always get televisions with better picture and better equipment but Sony lasts. I still have a 9 year old 52 inch projection television that still works and has a better picture than my friends 52 inch Pioneer elite which is 5 years younger. Their products are built to last. My 5 disc Sony CD player from when I was a teenager still works, it's 19 years old.

yeah, i love sony TVs. I still have a 27 inch sony from like 1990, and a 52 inch from 1997. both work fine.

sony did do a horrible job in manufacturing PS2 though in terms of durability.

It depends on whrn you bought your PS2. The first PS2's that came out had issues but that was to be expected. I got my PS2 in 2003 and it's been extremely reliable and durable. It hasn't overheated, froze or had any problems. The first PS2's were overheating and having issues but that's typical of any original model. That's why I never buy the first edition of any technological device because they are essentially being beta tested on the public. Microsoft has been doing this with their operating system for years. I heard people have been having problems with the PS 3 overheating as well which is why I didn't buy one initially because I knew it would have problems.

The Slim PS2 was pretty good, but a lot of regular PS2's kept having DREs throughout its lifespan.
