Most Dallas Cowboy historians point to the 1970 Super Bowl as the start of the blue jersey jinx. At that time "I think" the league had a silly practice of mandating alternating light and dark jerseys for each conference representative. The NFL/NFC wore dark jerseys in odd year Super Bowls (I, III, V), the AFL/AFC wore their dark jerseys every even year Super Bowl (II, IV). Thus in Super Bowl V both teams were unhappy--both the Cowboys and Colts were forced to wear (what they considered) away jerseys. Maybe thats why both teams played so poorly!
Regarding the "true date" of the blue jersey jinx. I am tempted to argue that it started in the late 1960s with both the Cleveland Browns and LA Rams (coached by George Allen) forcing Dallas to wear their Blue jerseys--and both teams enjoyed competitive success against Dallas while doing so.
Just my theory!
