If you look around the league, you will see what most of us have seen for quite awhile. The league has next to no complete squads that play both great offensively and defensively. San Francisco and Baltimore from last year came the closest to that, though both teams are struggling defensively due to coaching changes and injuries.

One thing I am noticing is that several teams are having to out boat race the other team. Poor defensive efforts can be overcome with elite offensive numbers, and this league encourages heavy investment in the offense and trying to make do defensively. The Chiefs have the Brady/Belichick model working and for now it seems to be just enough.

Most teams have to go another direction, and there is a clutter of teams that play okay offensively and okay defensively. The two teams leading in point differential are Minnesota and New Orleans and New Orleans is absurdly 2-2. I think the whole thought of build a complete team is fantasy. You try to build an elite offense and have a decent defense. If you land an elite QB all bets are off on team construction.

I hate to remind you but Washington is looking pretty scary lately. Quinn has that team balling BIG TIME!!!!!

Good teams still find a way to win. DAL did just that.

Correct.

The salary cap and the way the game is called means you should make the passing game priority 1-5. Everything else can fall into place after that.

Yeah, Washington is just out offensing opponents. They are third in point differential, but have given up lots of points. The last game looked like many of Dallas’ wins in the past few years. Build a big lead, then turn the game over to guys told to hunt the passer and not worry about running backs.

I'll bet you $100 right now the Chiefs win the next SB, and the refs will make sure that happens.

I still value a balanced attack, which still means pushing significant assets into the running game. The 2014 and 2016 offenses were so consistent at scoring because of how devastating play action is when the opposing defense is so focused on trying to stop the running game.
