You could tell Romo was finally healthy coming out of preseason as soon as the first drive. His throws had some zip on them and his mobility looked good. Good enough that Linehan called a bootleg in the first drive of the game which resulted in a short completion to Witten. I don't think that was an option last season. If you compare the game winning TD celebrations from the win in NY in 2014 to the one on Sunday you can see how much better his back is doing.

If you just look at the box score the two INTs will stand out but I think they were just plays that went NYG's way. The first one to Witten could have been positioned better but that tip and bounce on Witten's hand allowed the ball to perfectly land in the LB's lap. The second was a nice pass to Street but was hit and the ball flew out and landed perfectly into the CBs lap which was returned for a touchdown.
The throw to Witten that was intercepted and the Bryant fade in the endzone were two throws I think he would want back but besides that Romo played very well. His adjustments at the line were masterful. He knew how the defense was going to attack and adjusted the blocking and the route(s) accordingly which lead to big plays or key first downs. He was 36/45 for 356 yards for an 80% completion rate, completed passes to 8 different players, and had 3 touchdown passes with none bigger than the game winning TD to Witten with 7 seconds left in the game.
Overall, the running backs had a good performance. The backs had 34 touches, rushes and receptions, and amassed 212 yards. The run game was stifled a bit with all the turnovers and then compounded when we lost Leary and Bryant. Our offensive line was able to create openings for big plays but NYG either had the correct blitz to stop it or there was a nice tackle to keep the run contained. The backs did a lot of their damage in the passing game. Dunbar looked great coming out of the backfield or lining up wide and running routes. He even had a couple of blitz pickups that were enough to give Romo time in the pocket. I'm looking forward to seeing how the running backs will do the next couple of games against better run defenses.
Beasley's fumble right before the half was a key play in the game. Instead of running out of bounds after getting the first down he cuts back inside which allows him to gain an extra 10 or so yards. Unfortunately the CB he beat inside comes back and strips the ball and then the defense recovers and gets a touchdown. Cutting inside wasn't a bad idea but the ball security is unacceptable. Beasley played well after that play.
Williams will have to step up while Bryant is gone. All of those snaps he got while Bryant was resting the hamstring in the preseason allowed him to be as prepared as possible for this scenario. I think Williams can be successful in a more featured role.

Williams does a nice job getting away from the press which gives Romo a window for the throw but he has to make the catch. These are the kinds of plays he will have to make as a #1.
The defensive line did not get many opportunities to rush the passer. Eli was getting the ball out quickly. He was primarily going with 1 or 3 step drops and the ball was gone. I counted two plays where he had time to bounce on his feet in the pocket. Every pass play was out of shotgun except for four plays that were playaction under center. Eli was sacked on the 3rd playaction pass which was in the 2nd quarter. They did not run another play under center until the big 3rd and goal play right before the game winning drive.
Even though NY was getting the ball out quickly Dallas did have 1 sack and 4 hits on the QB. Gregory got the most pressure but T.Crawford, Mincey, and Lawrence made plays too. The one thing I will mention was there was a couple of plays when the DE did not keep backside contain and the play was able to go back because the DE was not there. Dallas cannot do that against PHI's offense. Speaking of Gregory...

...he looked quick out there. Gregory started off as a pass rush specialist but spelled Mincey at RE for a series. He gave their rookie LT trouble with his speed. Gregory is a very talented player. Hopefully he can comeback quickly from his ankle injury because we lose a lot of talent and depth while he is gone.
We know Lee is a great player when he is on the field and he looked good in his return. His IQ and awareness are very high. When he drops back in zone as soon as the QB starts to turn his shoulders to pass to a receiver Lee is breaking to the ball.

He almost deflects the pass on the second play. Against the run he's in the right place, sheds the blocker, and tackles the RB.

On NY's drive to go up by 2 near the end of the game he saves a potential big run that bounced the other way by quickly shedding his block, running around trash, and made a diving tackle. It's great to have him back.
It was also nice seeing Hitchens back in the game. He also made plays in the run game. Wilber made some plays too. Most notably in the 4th quarter when he slipped the block of the FB and shoots the gap to get the RB for a TFL.
The corners had good coverage most of the game. They held NYG's WRs to 10 catches for 93 yards. Carr, Claiborne, and Patmon were physical with the receivers and didn't give Eli much room to throw. It looked like Dallas used Jones primarily to cover TEs. It makes sense, he has the measurables to do it and in game 1 he did well.
Wilcox looked really good in coverage. I thought he looked more comfortable than last season. The reverse to Harris to start the 3rd quarter was a good example of reading the play and then getting a good angle to ensure the tackle. Could this be the season Wilcox puts it all together?
