Bob Stoops Rundown?

He's had his best talent at OU the last few years and has lost 9 of his last 25 games.

he also lost his starting QB just before the season and Peterson missed much of this year....and parts of his previous years.

He, along with everyone else, ran into Vince Young last year.

OU got screwed against Oregon.

Boise St needed 2 gimmick plays to win that bowl game.

I dont see how they lost 9 of their last 25 games.

Last year they played in the Holiday Bowl and beat Oregon....I only recall like 2-3 losses last year and 2 losses this year....so at most 5 losses in his last 26 games.

Except that part about having very mediocre quarterbacks...

I would agree that Bomar is a mediocre QB. He never showed he could pass the ball with any accuracy. But Stoops wants a conservative offense and won't let a QB win or lose a game.

Any college coach is good for a rebuilding franchise since the length of time needed to return to winning may be long an arduous and the chemistry between coach and team can grow. The current cowboys team needs a guy similar to BP's metality to step and keep them going.

At least Stoops would know how to use Roy... That's gotta count for something ;)

But can he handle manic Andy from The Office?

really? Thats why Boise was undefeated cause they werent good?

You have no idea of the talent level of those teams, both were very good

I went to OU and I'm a Sooner fan so I'm well qualified to speak about OU and Stoops. I can assure you that OU didn't deserve to even be in the Fiesta Bowl. Arkansas, and Wisconsin were better teams than OU by far. We entered the game by default due to the rules limiting the number of teams from a conference in BCS games. In fact, there were several teams that were better than OU this year. The Big 12 conference was weak and thus we looked better than we were.

OU overachieved with the talent they had. If you want to blame Bob Stoops, blame him for not recruiting well the past 2 seasons but in regards to coaching, he has done an admirable job overall.

Hey can someone give me a rundown on this guy ? I gave up watching all College Sports b/c I went to a big school and IMO the whole thing is a fraud. So I really pay little attention - last game I watched all 60 mins was Texas v OSU.
Tks!
Great coach, brought OU back from the ashes. Our best possible hire. He may not want to leave OU.

yeah...kinda of a pompous coach...made an arse of himself while his team was getting punked vs LSU...loses big games left and right...

He did win a national championship. He's won many big games. Are you a Sooner hater? I'l bet you are. LOL

LOL. Didn't he lose his QB right before the season started and his star running back for half the season? I think he did a damn great job overcoming such adversity.

Our best possible hire and a new fresh direction. Will he leave OU? Remains to be seen. All these Stoops bashers are delusional.

please...Boise had a nice season...they did go undefeated...but when your schedule includes only two other decent teams (and I use "decent" loosely) it isnt hard to go unbeaten...last yr they played Georgia and were beaten by 5 tds in a game that wasnt that close...their schedule this yr amounts to what is basically the sisters of the poor

as for the talent level, Boise probably has 4 or 5 guys that might get a chance to play on Sunday's...maybe

He isn't going anyway. Some fans are pretty egotistical thinking any coach would fawn over the job opening. Stoops in an Ohio guy for the 417th time. He turned down the Browns. He's turned down Ohio State and the only place he said he would consider (Florida) TWICE. The more likely scenario is that he would tell Jerry no thanks to his meddling ways and no thanks to the NFL lifestyle.

good, maybe he is smarter than I think he is then...because he'd be a huge failure in the NFL and if he does try NFL coaching, I sure dont want it to be in Big D

outcoached him badly? needed a 2 pointer in overtime on a trick play to win and he outcoached him badly?

OU's talent level is significantly higher than Boise St's

the game shouldnt have come down to a 2pt conversion

to piggy back on dbairs honest assesment just let me add

Played for 3 national titles winning 1

won the big 12 four of the last six years

always has one of the best teams in the country

Well said BigDFan5! You gotta love some of the hate for a guy who has recruited very well in Oklahoma, and has made the Sooners a premiere team since arriving in Norman.

But oh well.

Stoops knows how to get the most from his players without beating them down emotionally. And you can tell that the players geniunely like to play for the man.

That is what I would like to see here in Dallas.

Not so long ago Stoops said that there was only two jobs outside of Oklahoma that he would take... The Notre Dame head coaching job and the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job.

I believe this was when Notre Dame was looking to snag a former alumnist in Charlie Weiss.

Take it for what it is worth.
