Morning Crotch Kick: '07 draft, Cowboys trade up for Spencer: they could have stayed put for Lamarr Woodley. Sacks: Woodley 39, Spencer 15.5

Woodley is exactly the sort of brutal player our defense is straving for. Only one of many mistakes the last 5 drafts.

In unrelated news.

Spencer played well in the second half of 2009, so there is hope for him. I want to see how Ryan uses him. maybe he's one of those guys like Jenkins who needs to be pushed all the time.

Yeah, but it was 1/2 season out of 4. That leaves me a little skeptical. I think he is a solid all around player, but I have serious doubts he will ever be the pass rushing compliment to Ware this team needs.

two different players on two defenses on two different teams in two different divisions--useless comparison

Or maybe if Woodley was on this team and spencer was on the steelers we would still be having this same type of conversation and you would still be using the history repeats it line.

Interesting thread: starts out with a questionable premise (i.e., that a player in one 3-4 scheme can be measured sack-for-sack against a player in a different 3-4 scheme) that MIGHT be true and then spins into surreal allegations about sexual orientation and its effect on football ability.

Truly, this is the Cowboy fan's off-season at its unhinged best.

In some related news, primarily the same front office that made that mistake - and many others in the last few years - is largely in place to continue to do so this year and beyond.

And the offseason's still young... :laugh2:

Probably has more to do with the systems and culture of the teams they play for. Is anyone not nasty on that steelers D? does anyone besides Ratliff play with any attitude on this team?

Let see what he does in Ryans D, i have a feeling he won't tolerate soft

Sorry, but I can only go by what is known.

I know the team could have had Woodley instead of Spencer.

And I know that Woodley has shown himself to be the vastly superior player.

I also know that I'm not interested in yet another poster making excuses for the team and their mistakes.

I also know that several posters will do exactly that ie make excuses for the team and their mistakes

fixed it for you ;)

Well let me tell you what I know.

Dick Lebeau is the best DC in the game.

I know his defenses perform year in and year out.

I know they have a history of plugging people in and out of his system and they do well.

I also know that i'm not interested in yet another poster whining like a little girl about things they can not change concerning the draft.

See...two can play the game.

With the style of 3-4 the cowboys have been running. Woodley wouldve been cut by now. Spencer is more athletic. Woodley has had the coaching spencer hasnt been graced with

There really is no need to make litany of excuses. As it currently stands, Lamar Woodley is a better player than Anthony Spencer. We needn't whitewash it.

I would like to add one final thing to this list. The Steelers demand extremely physical play out of their players. That isn't always the case for the Cowboys.

That is another part of it for sure.

The problem some negative nancies or whiners have is the idea that I am making excuses for the team.

I think they are concentrating on the wrong aspect of this whole thing.

I don't think it is the player as much as it is the attitude and coaching of the team.

I think you plug spencer into Woodleys spot on the steelers with DL as DC and I bet he puts up around the same numbers as Woodley does.

If you put woodley on this team over the last few years I bet he puts up similar numbers to spencer.

But again...what good does it do to talk about drafts in the past that you can not change other than to whine about it....nothing is the answer.
