Thanks Bob Sturm I knew the Cowboys overall Drafting has done poorly but your Article in Black and White Print really shows the truth:

2006: Nobody
2007: Anthony Spencer, Doug Free, Alan Ball
2008: Felix Jones, Jenkins, Martellus Bennett, Orlando Scandrick
2009: Stephen McGee, Victor Butler, John Phillips
2010: Bryant, Lee, Sean Lissemore
2011: Tyron Smith

Sturm stated this is from 48 Picks in the Draft. I personally think it's time to take a serious look at the Scouting Department.

compound that when your competitors are drafting like this.

Packers Drafts

2009

  • BJ Raji starter
  • Clay Matthews starter
  • TJ Lang starter
  • Jarius Wynn starter
  • Brad Jones second team

2010

  • Bryan Bulaga starter
  • Mike Neal second team
  • Morgan Burnett starter
  • Andrew Quarless second team
  • Marshall Newhouse starter
  • James Starks starter
  • CJ Wilson second team

2011

  • Derek Sherrod second team
  • Randall Cobb starter/special teams ace
  • Alex Green injured reserve
  • Davon House third team
  • DJ Williams third team
  • DJ Smith second team
  • Ryan Taylor active roster

2011: Murray

Past 2 years has been pretty good. No complaints from me.

I don't think anyone compares with the Packers. They are the best scouting department in all of pro sports imo. Not just NFL.

so we don't show the undrafted players the cowboys scouting department has found. OR the off the street FAs like Fiamattea or Robinson. Nor do we count Murrey or Nagy both starter but we show backups on the packers roster.

I will give you that 2009 was bad and so was 2006 but overall its not that bad.

2011 you forgot Carter Special Teams when he started to play lets not act like he did nothing he did produce after no training camp nothing due to injury.

Murray was outstanding for a stretch until his ankle was broken

Naggy was starting and contributing before injury and will at least give us an experienced backup next year,

Akrin was ok and showed some flashes so to act like 2011 is Tyron Smith only draft pick that did anything in 2011 is down right funny

To be fair you need to wait at least three years before judging a class. Remmeber how good that 2002 class looked their first two years?

Arkin was okay and flashed? When? He was not even active all season long at a position ravaged by injuries. He is a project at best. I fail to see how you can count that as a "win"

He probably meant Nagy. Arkin was inactive all year. But it was known he'd ilkely need a year in the weight room.

He showed in the preseason he lacked the strength coming from the small school I count that as a maybe. To act like 2011 was a terrible draft after this year is stupid

That is just it. Imagine if we had drafted good in addition to the undrafted free agents and off the street free agents. We wouldn't be in this position if we had drafted well. Of that group listed we only have 6 starters, and one of those is Felix who is only doing it becasue of injury. Spencer is one of them and he is on his way out and Free and Jenkins have been suspect since last year.

It is amazing what counts as a "maybe" anymore.

I have a man crush on Sturm to be sure.
And he is right to talk about depth being the key issue here.

All that said the issue lies with BP as much as Jerry. This team added a lot of age and shot for immediate turn around instead of rebuilding a terrible roster via youth. BP was here in 2006 where we produced no real talent.

In 2007 we drafted late and produced only a few NFL talents. But Spencer has been a long term starter and Doug Free is the starting Left Tackle. He may well move to RT but he will still start here. Alan Ball is a nickel/dime back but a useful piece for a very late draft pick.

In 2008 we were coming off of a 13-3 season and had the draft to show for it. But Felix, Scandrick and Jenkins is not a terrible draft haul. Jenkins is our best CB, and a solid one. Scandrick is a great nickel CB option. Felix is a good back if not a bell cow. He'll be nasty mixed in with Murray. And hopefully he goes back to returning kick offs.

2009 was a wasted draft but one year of total draft fail is hard to blame for this mess.

Dallas chose to go heavy into the CBA conflict and ate some cap costs because of it. They also chose to hire a young Coach they knew would need to grow into the position. An interesting move for an owner who is well aged and wants to win now to secure his legacy.

Dallas needs to get better in every area.
They need to draft better, they need to pluck prime free agents at the right costs and they need to have better coaching in 2012.

Bottom line..........we have to start drafting better.

Not exactly earth shattering revelation by Sturm here.
