With just 9 days until the first game of the 2015 NFL season, perhaps we should take a minute to identify
some things to consider when putting your NFC playoff field together.

Here is a fancy grid below which keeps a rolling 10-year look at NFC playoff participation. Below, you can see that 7 years in the last 10 is the high total for NFC playoff appearances for Seattle and Green Bay, while a sad squad hasn’t been in the post-season in the last decade – those St Louis Rams.

Dallas, strutting around with new-found confidence is at 4, which is out paced by 5 NFC organizations (Seattle, Green Bay, New Orleans, New York Giants, and Philadelphia), but finally broke its 5 year drought with its berth last winter. You can see by looking at the grid how it seems everyone gets a turn in the playoffs every few years.
Only 3 teams have not been in the playoffs since 2011 in the entire NFC – Chicago, Tampa Bay, and those Rams. Parity!...

I hope so, as Irvin once said Fear is the biggest motivator out there. Cowboys do not need to assume playoffs are in hand, if you want it go out and take it.

The Eagles owned the division for a long time when McNabb was there. Hopefully it's our turn.

If I had to pick the 5.7 I can see teams like Green Bay, Carolina, Arizona, New England, Denver and Pittsburgh missing the playoffs this year. Injuries, suspensions and old age could haunt them.

To get to the playoffs they must win the nfce I feel. I don't see a wild card coming from the nfce. Really tough schedule and it will be really hard and I'm sure they know that.

I think, given the level of competition in the NFC (at least at or near the top), they should always be worried about not making the playoffs.

what I notice is most of those teams that have large gaps between playoff appearances have had perenially unsettled QB play.... I just will be utterly devastated if last year was an anomaly. I'm sick of it. I just want to string together a good 3 year streak for once in recent memory. And with the stability of the team I think we can do it. Just have a question at RB IMO. And the next month should tell the tale on that. :(

People think stats alone tell the whole story, when they almost never do.

Pittsburgh will not be missing the playoffs this year. Their offense is scary and their defense is improving. I can see them representing the AFC this year.
