Bob Sturm: Did The Cowboys Get The Wrong Receiver?

This is a dumb article. Boldin wasn't available last year in the middle of the season. He was hurt and he was also a vital piece to the Cardinals success and they weren't looking to trade him. JJ wanted the WR to help push the team over the hump and it was RW11 that was available, not Boldin. If we made the trade this offseason and Boldin was available then yeah, you can say we made the wrong choice but thats not how it went down. JJ went for the missing piece to take the team to a superbowl last year. It didn't work out and now RW11 is simply a WR on the team who, like all the others, needs to play well and help the offense score points.

Boldin's success against mediocre corners worries me. I don't think he can be the man, especially considering he's had the best WR in the game drawing coverage away from him.

I have the same worry for Roy, how will he manage seeing every team's # 1 corner each week.

You act as if every team has a top 5 corner.

No but every team has their own top cornerback.

And all of last year the opposing team's best DB covered either Calvin Johnson or Terrell Owens.

Therefore, he will be facing much better corners than the ones he struggled against last year.

I would rather have Roy Williams than Anquan. Better attitude.

The good guy image strikes again. To hell with production! I wish somebody had video of the Falcons vs Lions game last year. They had some nobody on dude the whole game and he was giving it to Roy except for his touchdown. Blame his qb all you want to but he got no separation and he was healthy. GO cowboys

Michael Irvin didn't get a lot of seperation.

Against number 1 corners? True but he still made the plays. Roy was going up against the Falcons number 2 corner and had 1 good play the whole game. Yall can think i hate Roy because of TO all you want to but if we got a real number 1 in Dallas the only player i would hate would be #9

What about before '08?

The Lions had Az Hakim, Tai Streets and Reggie Swinton when Roy had an 800 yard rookie season. Mike Williams, Kevin Johnson and Charles Rogers were on hand in '05. Mike Furrey had a 1000 yard, 98 catch season in '06 when Roy went to the Pro Bowl, who were defenses worried about the most? Williams was only second in everything to Shaun McDonald in '07 due to playing 4 fewer games.

I know that it remains to be seen what Roy can do for the Cowboys as "the guy."

But we do have Jason Witten, the best tight end in the league to me, and a loaded backfield for defenses to also devote attention to.

I don't think Roy has to do anything astronomical stat wise this season, though it'd be great if he does. Just make plays when they are there to be made.

He'll get some double coverage, so will Witten and the other starting wideout at times. Whichever back is in the game will sometimes come face to face with an eight man front.

We just need Tony Romo to look for the best match-up when passing the ball and avoid getting in the habit of forcing throws hoping to get certain players their touches.

These Roy haters are kind of funny in a pathetic way.
Harping on Roy Williams' injury history is completely understandable. Everything else is... well... kinda wild.

Harping on his lazy practice habits is wild? Harping on him letting number 2 cbs guard him is wild? Guess im wild then. Thanks

You could always harp on the fact that Roy Williams has been at Valley Ranch with Tony Romo all off-season working with his quarterback and the other receivers to get ready for this season.

Terrell Owens couldn't be bothered to do that.

And we all see what Owens' aloof superstar traning on my own act got him in the end.

There are questions about Williams being "the receiver" in Big D, no one will deny that. But he is in his prime and appears to be doing everything we could hope for to finally fulfill his vast potential.

Williams doesn't just fly in to town for OTAs, mini-camps and press conferences.

Regular season games are decided during practice? Are they are also part of some sort of FOX tripleheader

2008 was an atypical season for Williams, but you keep harping on the 'fact' of weakly implying that number two cornerbacks will restrict Williams in 2009.

Wild? You?? I would never suggest describing you anything quite as tame as that for you. No sir. Not me. :)

If I was mired in Detroit for my season when I grew up and went to school in Texas wishing I could play in my home state, and my team (Detroit) was total trash my entire time there, I wouldn't have good practice habits either.

Why go hard in practice when the outcome is the same every Sunday anyway?

Was Boldin even available at that time? The Cardinals were a good team last year, they weren't about to trade an important part of their offense in a playoff run IMO.

and quite effectively might I add.......its all down hill for TO now...get over it...in a year youll be glad hes gone when you see his skills rapidly decline.....

If I had to choose I am taking Boldin but we have Roy so I am a Roy fan...

Dont you think they would trade Boldin to AFC but not to Philly or Dallas b/c there may be playoff implications? I think that is why he is still a Card.
