This is a classic from back in 2008. Every time I read it, it still rings so true.

When you think about it, at the end of the year there is a 31/32 chance that you will be disappointed in the season, someway, somehow. That to me is what was so hard about being a fan.

Try being a Mets fan and dealing with the ridicule(deserved) at the same time :(

I think Wilpon makes Jerry look like a genius!

Got that beat, most of my family are Cubs fans (I got out of it, but for their sake they are my second team)... my grandpas been a Cubs all his life, seen 0 World Series wins...

Yea, but they aren't pumped up like the Mets are every few years. We have an inept owner who has never played an inning in his life. He knows nothing about baseball at all.

Hit me in the feels. It's been a rough go for the past 20 years since I was 6 years old.

I haven't felt this robbed and heartbroken since the Mavs in 2006. I hope for redemption in some form or fashion.

Yeah, but if misery loves company...

It hurts like hell, but I'm realistic.

I'm not even 30 and I've seen my team win 3 Super Bowls. How many fans of other teams my age can top that? None, that's how many.

Even if we never win another one in my lifetime, I still saw us win 3. The Eagles are 0-49 in Super Bowl years. So no, I'm not complaining about 3 in the last 23 years.

My 7 year old cried after that horrific call. As upset as I was, my heart absolutely broke for him. It reminded me of "the catch" when I was a kid. The only time I ever cried after a game. Now he has the "no catch". Sickening that some idiot refs took away this team's chance to advance. Dallas may not have won after that catch, but the refs just ruined a great play and a great chance. I'll never get over this and my son and I may have been denied a great chance to see Romo, Witten and the team win a SB. I would so much rather have lost by our D blowing it after we scored after the catch. I could accept that our weakness cost us, but that horrific reversal is not acceptable and the refs ruined a team and their fans' season.

If we had just lost fair and square, I could live with it. Getting screwed out of the perfect throw and catch hurts. Bad. This isn't the usual pain of the end of a season.

How do you think Romo feels.............?

He was robbed of everything he stands for and is criticized for.

The dude can't catch a break. Ever.

When I was nine I cried at the end of the Ice Bowl. I felt terrible.

But since then I have seen five Superbowls. Don't despair everyone: this team is relatively young and very talented. We weren't even supposed to be part of the conversation this year and look how we did.

I like you am a " Vintage" Cowboys fan. We have seen it all, and I too see more promise ahead with the true " team" we have now.

Also read that JG personally went to each player and thanked them for this year. That's how you motivate people to even greater heights. It's easier when it's a W, but done following an L lifts the spirit to want to achieve even more.

Go Cowboys...

I remember reading that at the time. Sturm should be required reading for posting on this board (I kid, sort of). Not just a great sports writer -- a great writer regardless of subject.

Agreed. It's great general advice that doesn't specifically apply to this season.

For me, it's not even pain. More like resentment over the incompetence that robbed us of at least one legendary moment, and who knows how many more potential ones.

I don't know how to like a post so I'll just say it: I liked it. :)
