Dallas Cowboys defensive Rod Marinelli on the sideline in a game against the Indianapolis Colts during the second half of play at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Sunday, December 21, 2014. Dallas Cowboys defeated the Indianapolis Colts 42-7. (Vernon Bryant/The Dallas Morning News)

Every day at camp, there is a chance on our radio show (12p-3p on Sportsradio 1310 and 96.7 FM, The Ticket) to visit with a Cowboys player or coach for a segment or so. This has made for some very valuable opportunities and experiences where you can really pick their brain and get a feel for what they are all about in the low stress setting of the first week in August. That is when some of my favorite conversations have happened with these guys and generally when we visit with coaches, in particular, it is a real chance to almost get them to teach us what they are all about and what they believe in.

Another interview where Marinelli compliments his secondary here in Dallas again. Good stuff, all around.

This will be year three in the transition to the 4-3 under the Kiffin/Marinelli philosophy. In that time we have a 100% new DL (I'm counting Crawford as new because he barely played his first year), we have completely changed our LB corps excluding Sean Lee and Kyle Wilber, and added 2-3 new pieces to the secondary. So basically, they have completely spent their time rebuilding from the inside out.

Pretty impressive to me that they have done this so quietly and so quickly.

That interview was awesome. "Did you wrestle a bear?" "Well, there were a lot of people around so I had to go in."

It might be just me, but as soon as Marinelli came aboard even with some marginal talent, this defense has been looking better and better each season...and this year is going to be a ton better.

Last year the team got the benefit of a schedule with a less potent passing attack. There were still holes, but the teams we played were less able to exploit them. That said, good on teh team for not resting on it's laurels and making the moves to really continue to inject talent. This offseason we added Hardy, Gregory, Jones, Corey White, and maintained the happiness of Mincey and McClain, and are getting a healthy Sean Lee and hopefully Claiborne.

That's a LOT of new toys
