Since 2007 when Garrett became the OC, NE and Denver have run more than Dallas 5 out of 8 years. If you take away the Linehan influence of 2014, that would make these "pass happy" teams have more rushing attempts than Dallas 5 out 7 years.

Denver had more rushing attempts than Dallas in 2012 and 2013 with Payton Manning as their QB. Let that sink in when you label another team "pass happy." Bottom line, we've seen enough of Garrett to know that running is not necessarily his philosophy. We can use the OL excuse all day but it just doesn't fly for anyone grounded in reality. Garrett's been in the top 10 in rushing attempts only twice since he's been here and one of them was last year with Linehan. The other year was 2009 when we won a playoff game and should have made more noise in the playoffs. We run, we win. On the other hand, NE has been in the top 10 in rushing attempts 3 times during the years Garrett has been in Dallas and Denver twice (same as Dallas).

Not sure how you can definitively label some of these successful teams as "pass happy" when they have consitently run more than we do.

Yes, perception can often be greater than reality.......

they also had better defenses, better personnel and weren't behind in the 4th quarter as much as the cowboys. give me the rushing attempts in the 4th quarter for those teams vs. the cowboys. then you will see the difference. teams with leads, tend to run the ball in the 4th. we did that last year as well.

I like how people act like Garrett wasn't an integral part of this thing since 2007. He was hired before Wade Phillips, was given almost complete control of the offense and was the assistant head coach. He's a big part of those failures as well.

I am not going in circles. its not a pass happy league. its a passing league as over the past 10 years rules have been made more difficult on defensive players to defend the pass, because the league wanted more scoring.

my response was in regards to your comments. you totally ignored everything else, except laser focus on running game being the total difference maker between 2013 and 2014.

Cowboys pass happy, poor defense, no run game = 8-8 8-8 8-8

Cowboys with Dominant run game = 12-4

So are you suggestion we abandon the run game this year because its a pass happy league? LOL

Oh....got it now...like Garrett did with GB and Detroit. Now I understand.

better defense from one of the all time worst had nothing to do with the improvements. yeah...sure. it was all the running game. then we should have just traded all our draft picks to get gurley or Gordon and just laugh our way to a superbowl because the running game is the only thing needed to be a successful team.

that is far from the truth.

Indy was #1 passing team. #22 rushing. TOP 31.54
steelers #2 passing team. #16 rushing. TOP 32.24
NO, #3 passing team. #13 rushing TOP 30.35
Denver #4 passing team. #15 rushing TOP 30.34

perception is a powerful drug!

Indy had 2 100 rushers in the SB.

Steelers had a top 5 defense.

NO had a defense that led the league in turnovers.

Your perception is lacking.

1st 4 years

Belichick: 6-10, 7-9, 7-9 and 11-5 for a 31-33 record 1-1 in post season
Garrett: 8-8, 8-8, 8-8 and 12-4 for a 36 and 28 also 1-1 in post season

LOL...........therefore Garrett is Bellikeck.

I love the way you Garrett lovers try to justify him.

Garrett=Jimmy because they are both walk around coaches

Garrett=Bellikeck because they had similar records their first 4 years.

There is no play to call when it's going to be a jail break the second you snap the ball.

Actually, there is. It's called a hot read. Garrett was heavily criticized for not having enough hot reads and short routes in exactly this situation.

This Coaching comparison reminds me of Wayne Fontes of the Detroit Lions. Jason Garret is my Wayne Fontes. Every year, Fontes was on the brink of getting fired yet he always survived.

Jerry had to compartmentalize Garrett's responsibilities to Clapping and Motivation Speeches in 2014 while only allowing the assistant coaches to handle the team. Jerry's ego is too big to fire Garrett so he will do everything in this world to make sure JG succeeds. Jerry showed the world in the 1990s that anybody can coach the Cowboys and win a Super Bowl and he will do his best to make sure a "Coach in Training" wins a Super Bowl. Our biggest weakness in 2015 is keeping JG confined to his Clapping and Speech roles. If JG provides any input to any Game Planning, we will be screwed and Romo will once again have to save JG's butt.

Well said. I couldnt agree more.

Garrett is Texas' Version of the "Teflon Don". No blame or failures are ever his fault. After Wade was fired, the entire staff should have been sent packing at the end of the year including our "beloved" JG. The Team Quit on the entire Football Staff not just Wade. JG is a survivor and he always will be.He is the Poster Child for Not being Accountable. I guess "Coach in Training" buys you a few Free Passes each year. What a gig? Get paid Millions of dollars each year to be in Training. An IVY League Education is the way to go.

We also saw Garrett lobby for Felix Jones several years back. We also saw the sour look on his face several times when Jones drafted someone.

Assuming that it is correct that Garrett wanted Felix Jones, that means nothing. Every coach out there has missed on draft picks. Lord knows that Darth Hoodie up in New England gets the players he wants and he has missed on more picks that we care to even count. Belichick has made some really bad picks.

And if you're talking about the team passing on Floyd and Garrett appearing to not like it... That is because Garrett is a guy who trusts the process. With them going against their board and who it said to pick, Garrett isn't going to like that. Not that he loved Floyd, but he trusts the process and doesn't like going outside of that.

The problem was that in putting together that board, Ciskowski didn't take into consideration the players that the defensive coaches wanted and how they value different positions.

That was fixed immediately following that draft and there have been no more issues regarding that.

Garrett didn't love Floyd... he loves the process and wants to follow protocol.

but you keep faulting garrett for not running the ball and your have compared 2013 and 2014 pointing to the difference being the running game only!!

Really.......Show me where I said it was the running game only? I said it was the biggest reason.

LOL........But I thought you said it was a pass happy league? You are going around in circles now buddy.

yah, having a great defense is another thing I strongly believe in. Did you see somewhere where I said it wasnt?

So Dallas had a pass happy offense and a poor defense and they were going 8-8 3 years in a row. So at what point do you think they should start focusing on the run?
Oh wait, the just did that and look what happened? 12-4 Facts are stubborn things.

Yet Garrett and Linehan offense is the same offense. No one felt Linehan coming from Det would be running the ball. Garrett insisted that would be the case. I'm not going to say I have not question calls by Garrett, hell there is not a coach out there that I have not question his call at one point or another.

According to Jerry and Stephen, Jason does have a lot of say in what takes place on this team

They had Romo winging the ball all over the place and where did it get them?

Those 8-8 seasons were much more the fault of the defense than anything on the offensive side of the ball.

Heck, in 2013, even with one of the worst defenses the NFL has seen, Dallas would have likely made the playoffs had Romo not missed the final game in Philly. In fact, with Orton leading the team, they still almost beat the Eagles in Philly to make the playoffs.

No but then Belichick was not being looked at as a great coach at that point in time in his coaching career.
I can't say what is ahead for Garrett, I do think this is a big year for him with expectation of this team being as high as they are. I think for Jason this is a big career moment as a HC, winning when you are expected to win.

As for comparison of Jimmy? Jimmy seems to think very highly of Jason and felt from day 1 that Jason should have OC calling the plays since the job of HC is a situation where you are the coach of every player of every unit out there special teams, offense and defense. Being overwhelmed by one side of the ball takes away the attention needed in other areas.

Jimmy career is set in stone now, so making head to head a young HC vs a HC who has been there and done that, no would not be fair for either. Jason has to make his own mark and Jones are giving him the leeway to do just that

Football is pretty simple stuff.

Running, passing, Defense, special teams. Your job as a coach is to win and imp

He 100% did. They showed the draft cam with sound when Jones looked at Garrett and said who do you want to draft. He said Felix Jones. Jones drafted him 20 seconds later.

Of course it shows something. It shows that instead of telling him to draft a lineman or defense, he thought the biggest need for this team was a complimentary scat back to team with Barber. How wrong can you possibly be?

Yet Garrett and Linehan offense is the same offense.

It's not the same offense, at all. There may be similar phraseology, but that's where the similarities end. There have been many articles written on this, and lots of analysis.
