The St.Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Bobby Carpenter has lost his starting job at weakside linebacker to 2008 49ers practice squad player Larry Grant.

The team is putting a positive spin on the change in the depth chart, noting Grant's improved play during the training camp. They also muttered something about Carpenter's lack of physical play, but I'm sure that was a mis-statement as it would be absolutely shocking to us Dallas fans to hear that Barbie doesn't like to hit.

This seems to be a strong condemnation on Carpenter's skills While not particularly surprising for Cowboys fans and sobering to Rams fans, this revelation is actually great news for one group of fans. It means that those who decried the Alex Baron trade because Bobby Carpenter was destined for a pro bowl season with the Rams will be able to get absolutely amazing odds in Las Vegas of the second team linebacker getting that trip to Hawaii.

The guy is just too soft to play in the NFL.

Thankfully that dud is gone.

He actually wasnt even in the game with the 2nd team LB group. I watched the game and he didnt enter until he came in with the backup nickel defense. But the backup group in the base defense was 3 other guys.

NOW where are all of the Carpenter apologists?

Bobby Carpenter is soft, and will always be too soft for the NFL. Good luck doing analysis on ESPN, because that's exactly where he's headed.

And where are all the people, like me, who realize that at the time, he was rated very highly not just by us, but by most scouts? I read many times that he was going to be better than Hawk.

Big difference between a bust and a reach.

Even bigger difference between foresight and hindsight.

He was a bust when we drafted him, he was a bust when he played for us, and he's a bust now.

You didn't read that from anybody credible...at least they're not credible any more...

With a rep for being soft I doubt he gets a job with ESPN. Who is going to take him seriously when he tries to talk about football? The guys sole reason for not being a better player is because he is not man enough to take advantage of his physical tools.

Hopefully Bobby got his College degree because he is going to need ti.

I also recall some projecting he would be better than Hawk. He was as big or bigger, and much faster. I think it was assumed he was a bit of a reach where we drafted him, but I think most felt he would be a good football player. The fact is though that even the highest rated players fail sometimes. Cowboy fans need to quit being so bitter about Carpenter. It happens.

Probably the same people who take Chris Berman and John "Skeleton" Clayton seriously.

Or Skip Bayless........

Or....(insert host name).

Not having applicable football experience hasn't stopped anyone at ESPN yet. His flowing locks on the other hand........

Whats more funny than the fact that he's still soft is the people that actually seem to get enjoyment out of seeing a person fail at being a pro football player.

It's almost as if they're getting back at the football players who were so much better than them, that they actually had the oppurtunity to play college and pro ball, in high school by getting to laugh at the fact that they weren't a stud in the NFL.

Newsflash to all those people. Bobby is STILL a better football player than you ever were or ever will be. he actually made it to the big time college level and made it to the pros. That's more than those laughing at him ever did.

I'm no fan of him. I hated the pick cause it seemed like he was picked simply cause he was fast. I wondered if he'd do anything without Hawk to protect him on the field.

Clearly he couldn't. He's soft, everyone knows that, but I don't particularly find a great deal of pleasure in being able to say "yeah, see, he sucks."

please. scouts miss all the time. you'd have to be blind not to see that.

he didn't work out. given all the information anyone had at the time, he went at about the right spot. even among those who were critical of him, few saw him as being a soft player.

many of those folks wanted him to fail as a Cowboy so they could say they "called it" -- I swear some folks on this board care more about being right than about what works out well for the team.

Carp turned out to be a lousy pick. Honestly, that happens all the time to teams.

No disrespect.....but Im glad the RAT is gone.....

He spent way too much time in front of a mic for a player that was a backup and it doesnt surprise me....thats its alot quieter around the ranch.
Barbie career is in broadcasting.....he knows he doesnt have enough talent or toughness to play in this league....he is just riding this out and keeps those mediots close so he can have a job with those mediot outlets...

JMHO :)

why would they hire him lol. It seems everyone they hire has atleast some level of drawing power. No one will watch because carp is there, infact some may turn it off

ESPN seems infactuated with Carp. Whenever there was an interview coming up...it was him.

Agreed.

I won't say there are a lot of folks like that here but there are definately a handful that its pretty clear that being right is way more important to them than anything else.

Oh well. I'm sure that happens with every fan base.
