Carpenter was a bust, but going back and looking at who we could have drafted at that spot, who would have been substantailly better than Carp, there are only two really in the first three rounds. Nick Mangold comes to mind as well as Demeeco Ryans of the Texans. Other than that the draft was pretty weak where we drafted or later.

any time folks talk about what a genius The Tuna is, I bring up Carpenter--not Bobby's fault that Fatboy overreached

Whats more funny than the fact that he's still soft is the people that actually seem to get enjoyment out of seeing a person fail at being a pro football player.

It's almost as if they're getting back at the football players who were so much better than them, that they actually had the oppurtunity to play college and pro ball, in high school by getting to laugh at the fact that they weren't a stud in the NFL.

Newsflash to all those people. Bobby is STILL a better football player than you ever were or ever will be. he actually made it to the big time college level and made it to the pros. That's more than those laughing at him ever did.

I'm no fan of him. I hated the pick cause it seemed like he was picked simply cause he was fast. I wondered if he'd do anything without Hawk to protect him on the field.

Clearly he couldn't. He's soft, everyone knows that, but I don't particularly find a great deal of pleasure in being able to say "yeah, see, he sucks."
I agree with all you said here for the most part but what I don't get is how Bobby wasn't exposed as soft till he got drafted as our number 1 draft pick? And if being fast was the reason he was picked then everything else about him was overlooked. Being afraid to hit and tackle is a fundemental part of football and especially linebacker and I for one am amazed it took this long before it came to light that he was soft. Yes, Bobby Carpenter is a better football player than I ever was by how far he made it above me but I played the middle linebacker position with passion and laying a big hit was my goal on every play, I just was slow and short and someone anyone short of Stevie Wonder could see that, but I was never soft. I take no pleasure in any of our players not making it even if they go on to other teams and also fail it is not in me to be overjoyed by their failures. One more thing too you can't measure heart in a player like you can time speed with a stopwatch.

Where should Bobby have been drafted?

Too bad for him.

I wasn't a fan of his when he was a Cowboy, but for his sake, I was hoping he'd have success with the Rams.

Thanks Parcells.

why do some fans insist that BP was so hot on Carp? He wasn't a reach and didn't get picked b/c Bill liked his dad.

what a jerk that Parcells is ... leaving us with Newman, Witten, James, Crayton, Ratliff, Barber, Spears, Ware, Austin, Kosier, Colombo, and Romo. That's a group that any team would love to have.

Every team misses on picks. Get the **** over it.

Admittedly I wanted Manny Lawson whom Dallas passed over .... and though he starts for San Fran he hasn't been the difference maker many thought he was.

I think it's simply because everyone around him was good enough at Ohio State that it allowed him to make enough plays to seem like a good linebacker that no one really paid enough attention to the fact that he simply wasn't physical.

I agree with not being able to measure heart. I'm not saying there aren't plenty of people on these forums that have more heart, more physicality to them.

But just having heart and just being physcial, more times than not, isn't enough, unfortunately. Bobby does have, rather people hate him or not (And he was one of my least favorite Cowboys but I did cheer for him cause he was a Cowboy), talent to play the game that most of simply just never had.
