Bones did some good things here

Sorry to see Bones Fassel head out of town to the Titans but I understand. With no head coach in place and many of the jobs quickly getting filled, it would be difficult for him to stick around here.

As ST coach, Bones did several good things here in Big D:
  • Brought in and developed super return specialist Kevantae Turpin.
  • Discovered and developed K Brandon Aubrey.
  • Brought in excellent punter Bryan Anger in 2021.
Fassel greatly improved the Cowboys STs when he arrived in Dallas with Big Mac in 2020. In 2019, Dallas finished last in the NFL in kick return average and 31st in both net and gross punting average. Bones brought improvement with the Cowboys by 2021, ranking 5th in the NFL in kickoff return average, topped the league in net punting average and finished fourth in gross punting average. Those stats were almost always top ten in the 5 years Bones Fassel was here.

Sorry to see him go. All the best in Tennessee.
Bones is a good coach -- When Jerry got after him following the messed up blocked punt issue, that was a nail in his coffin. I do like that Bones stood up for his player. Players respect that.

His dad recommended both Sean Payton and Dan Campbell to Parcells. Those guys seem to be doing OK.

My take on the Cincy game was it cost the Cowboys a shot at the playoffs . You want the ball back any running into the punter or roughing the punter is going to prevent your offense from getting on the field , even worst is what occurred . After the game the blame should have gone squarely on the HC and ST coach .

MM is out of coaching at the moment and Fassel was picked up by a 3 win team . People not crashing on the freeway making calls to there agents .

Glad Dallas is hopefully changing the script that one got stale. 99 % of the NFL sets up the return so Turpin can bring it back . Not this duo .

Special teams were pretty bad usually before him and pretty good usually with him.

Ehh..he did some weird stuff too. Fake punt calls at bad times, and maybe that's more on McCarthy.

He also had Sam Williams on kickoff return which was strange.

But the really dumb thing was him playing Jalen Tolbert at Jammer (the CB in front of the gunner). They immediately targeted Tolbert for an easy conversion. Next week? Tolbert is still there. What did that team do? Target Jalen Tolbert for an easy conversion.

Bones was overrated.
Have to agree. Actually have to give our Jones GM dept some of that ST credit. *gulp* They found the kickers and gave Turpin the contract.

Folks forget how ST was actually out-schemed a few times by our smarter opponents. Yeah, the fake calls were probably on McCarthy.

Bones was the McCarthy of Special Teams. Solid Coach, may even get your team to a SB, but there are definitely better ones out there.

Does this mean we can finally see Goodwin gone? He’s made it through like 5 coaches it seems

Bones was amazing here

Him and Harris are the ones from the current staff I keep

One can make the case that he's done more successful roster building in the last 5 years than the GM has

Meh, his guys weren’t always situationally prepared. They were always a step behind whether executing fakes or having on ran on them… Turpin’s skills made everything bearable.

The next Cowboys HC is going to miss out on some good ACs, Bones being one of them. I can't to get my head around the how completely incompetent Jerry is.
