Well I believe (I could be totally wrong here) that they are supposed to help you win football games by gaining field position or scoring. Given that 22 of our 34 points came from special teams today (despite a block and missed fg), I’d say they did ok.
and those screwups could have cost us the game. And it was more INDIVIDUAL plays that told the tale rather than crack special teams units

He was crediting him for scouting out those individual players as well. If he is responsible for finding Turpin and Aubrey I can see his point.

I did alot of not being impressed by special teams early on, but they came through ultimately. So I can understand both sides.

Yep that was my point. Fassel has been one of the most effective scouting coaches we’ve ever had.

In a day mixed with the most insane special teams twists and turns, ‘Bones’ needs some serious appreciation.

He might honestly be the best coach we’ve had in the last 20 years at scouting talent. He discovered and scouted Turpin personally. He discovered and scouted Aubrey personally.

You’re never gonna be perfect and sometimes fakes and other things will go sideways, but you know he coached up Juanyeh Thomas on inside kick returns that led to that.
Which could have been a HUGE MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!! No, Fassel is lucky he has a job after the 2nd kick return for the TD. His message to his Kick Return Team should have been," If you get the ball, GET DOWN!!!!!!!!! If you get the ball, GET DOWN because the game will be over at that point ". I couldn't believe my eyes when Thomas got the ball and started up field with it, Hell, I was yelling at my flat screen for him to go, GO DOWN! This team isn't that good, and they proved it in Washington's second to last possession, when the defense was all out of whack AGAIN and allowed Washington's last TD. For whatever reason this team doesn't learn from their mistakes and running the ball in for a TD was a huge mistake AND if he had to do it all over and the way this team has played all season long, I personally believe Thomas would do it the same all over again..............LOL!!!

Umm... we missed 1 fg, had another blocked, had a punt blocked, and kicked 1 ko OB.

We've failed on all 3 fake punt attempts this season as well.

Bones having a repeat of 2020 basically.

They need to figure how to block better on punting. The Commodes sent 2 guys to double team the long snapper. They blew him up a few times, including the block
I have not seen it discussed and I didn't go back to see but you are not supposed to be able to blow up the long snapper like that or at least he gets 1 second to set himself which is usually enough. I may go back now and try to find a clip.

So I just went back to check and I would say what a terrible job by the guys to the left and the right of the snapper. They ignored the two biggest guys like they wanted no part of them. The long snapper was not really given any time and the two biggest guys completely destroyed him. I do not fault the long snapper at all he had no chance. I am pretty sure that could have been called as a penalty. What Washington did was basically exactly why there is a rule like that. Mainly just a terrible job by the rest of the blockers. Lets ignore the two monsters right in the middle. Good grief.

Special Teams has been filled with penalties/errors all season. It's been a solid run for Fassel but i'm ready to move on.

He needs to work with the trenches. Blocked kicks and punts. The TD return was on a fumbled catch. That last play he should have fallen on the ball. If he fumbles that then it’s game over. I saw MM yelling at Bones on the sidelines. MM is the one that needs his butt chewed. Terrible playcalling put us in the situation. Who calls jet sweeps on the 7. Plays that are getting stopped behind the line.

I never likeim. I never trussim.

(Someone will get it lol)

He pulled some crazy stuff earlier on, and it seems to be returning lately with the fake punts in their own end. Not sure how much of that is MM.

Sending mentally dumb players full speed after the punter on 4th and 14 with a lead will never make you great.
