Anything by Louis L'Amour.

And if you think he's just a western writer, try "Last of the Breed" and "The Walking Drum."

My dad is a big Louis L'Amour reader. I could always borrow a book or two.

If you like biographies, Walter Isaacson's biographies are very hard to beat. I've already read his Benjamin Franklin and Albert Einstein biographies. Both were stellar. His talent for entertaining writing is superb.

His Leonardo Da Vinci is likely next on my list followed by Kissinger.

My father is a big Louis L'Amour fan also. The one one I read was Down The Long Hills. It was a good book..

Since the Bible might take a little while longer than you'd like ........

I found Jon Krakauer's "Into Thin Air" a compelling read. Its about 400 pages of Butterfly Theory with ultimate ramifications.

I've already read the Bible several times from cover to cover. A longer read would be to revisit Middle Earth again with my Tolkien collection of books
From The Silmarillian, The Hobbit to Lord of the Rings.

Shogun one of my favorites.

Most WWII books by Ken Follett or Alistair MacLean

Joe Hill is a young writer with a few books out... Happens to be S. Kings son. Not quite as good as dad but not bad for someone new that many might not know about.

Paris 1919: Six Months That Changed the World

This non-fiction books really lays out how and why many of the problems of today were kicked off by the 1919 talks to end WWI. It's a very interesting read.

The Autobiography of Henry VIII by Margaret George. Her Elizabeth I was great, too. Science fiction by Robert Heinlein, Citizen of the Galaxy.
