It was a great game to be at... made flying across country worthwhile! Now if my Cowboys have as good a showing against the Giants tomorrow, my weekend of football will be complete!
The Sooners basically handed Miami 6 of their points with turnovers, and the other 7 points, it took the Canes 10 tries from inside the 2 yard line to finally get it. To put it another way, the Sooner Defense was amazing.
On offense, the coaches were determined to not let Calais Campbell get inside Bradford's head. They doubled him frequently, and when they singled him, Loadholt did a great job. I saw a play or two where Load pancaked Calais and just laid on top of him.
But to make sure the Miami D line didn't get to Bradford, they called a lot of quick passes and kept a RB or TE in to block. There was one play in particular on an obvious passing down where Load false started because he was anticipating Calais, and when they came back out after the penalty, they had moved Joe Jon (a TE) over to double block the all-American end.
All in all, then the Sooners kept the pressure off their young QB and he was only sacked once.
In the second half, the Sooners came out determined to establish the run, and they did so. After that, they had a possession where they opened up more and threw a lot (that was the possession where Gresham made the juggling catch) that ended with Malcolm Kelly's third TD.
I really got the sense that Miami didn't have anyone who could match up against Kelly. I wish OU would have run a bit better, but they still did well against a stout Defense.
I also thought Kyle Wright did much better at QB than Freeman for Miami. That Cooper kid is a solid runner.
It was a great game to be at, especially since the rain held out and we had great weather. My 6 year old is playing football now, and watching him appreciate the game from a whole new angle was a real treat to watch!
I think OU is going to be tough to handle for anyone this year. I'm throwing caution to the wind and putting them in the Sugar Bowl this January. :toast2:
