But there are some who think that wins in other parts of the season don't count.
Makes me think if the 'boys went 0-12, but won all four in December, they'd be happy campers.
No, we just expect our "normal" record in the first 3/4s of the season. That should get us in POSITION to make the playoffs. Then, a GOOD December might get us there.
The history of this franchise says that nothing in Sept., Oct., or Nov. has hampered us much. But, for the last several years, what has happenned in DECEMBER has definately hurt us.
I know that we've ALL heard this a thousand times, but it bears saying again, especially at this point in the discussion:
football is a game of momentum
All games ebb and flow and the team that can ride these waves and knows how to adjust so that it is ready to strike and take control of the momentum (and the game) will 95% of the time be the winner of said game. The later in the game, the more this becomes apparent. Essentially because the opponent has less and less time to recover, adjust, and respond. That's
game momentum.
But it's also true that
seasonal momentum plays a big part of what any team does in the elimination rounds leading up to the Conference Championship and Superbowl.
Of course you have to secure your playoff spot, but you'd better be playing
darn good football or you aren't going anywhere. You'll get dressed for the dance, but you won't even get your boots scuffed up. You'll be out the door before the first, fast polka is played.
And the teams
inside the dance hall will be the teams that we're
winning in December and
beating the other good teams on their schedule. They'll be the teams that have momentum and are
peaking their performance as the playoffs approach.
The folks that are best at this are the ones that will be putting some trophies in their cases. Divisional Trophies and Conference Trophies. And the players on those momentum-laden squads will be putting some serious bonus money in their pockets.
And the
FANS of those teams
will be delirously happy.
Until it all ends.
But the longer my team can stay at the dance.....(providing that they earn a ticket)......the longer I, too, will be deliriously happy.
