Hello to all you zoners. I'm a frequent reader here...rarely do i feel compelled to post something. But i feel after seeing all these posts recently about all the problems we supposedly have on this team i had to throw my two cents in.

I'm reading about how our WR's are garbage and how Tony Romo stinks and needs to get better and all these other things, but the bottom line ya'll...if you score 31 points in ANY game, you should come away with a "W". Plain and simple.

Our defense needs to start getting the job done because its my opinion that they look just awful right now. Our WR's are more than fine, we have some great RB's and Romo had an off game, and we STILL put up 31 points. Our offense is fine trust me. But if our secondary keeps getting torn up like it is and our pass rush is non existent, we won't win many games this year. It starts and ends with our defense, they are the key to our whole year and they need to get MUCHHHHH better right now.

...you are supposed to win when you are'nt -4 in the turnover ratio...the other team gets points too...Romo has to learn to drive the bus and the cornerbacks have to learn how to cover, Newman included...

I believe the defense is ranked 30th in the league. We can actually THANK Romo for not being 0-2 instead of ripping him a new ***.

I dunno, Sarge, Romo hasn't really thrown the ball well the first two games... we shouldn't forget that all those big plays in the passing game against the Bucs were really the WRs getting yards after the catch, or that Romo missed some open receivers in that game too...

I'm not about trashing Romo, but from my perspective he's been off his game at the start of the season... I hope he gets back in the groove pretty quick (and I'm confident he will)...

Romo started slow against TB but came on much stronger later.

The problem is... that was against TB.

Romo had one of his better games against Tampa. What are some of you guys talking about?

This week reminded me of one of the rules I put in place to govern myself when dealing with this site.

Stay away for 72 hours after losses.

The problem is I can't. I've been coming here everyday for at least 5 years but this has been one of the worst 3 day stretches in recent memory.

What really sucks about it though is unless the Cowboys go 15-1 with 14 lopsided blowouts this season the crazy, bridge jumping chicken littles are going to come out in full force and severly *** up my refuge after every game.

Thanks for making the whole being-a-Cowboys-fan process more difficult for me.

It's all about turnovers.

It amazes me how few miss this point. Some people would think that 40 points and six turnovers was a great game, when the truth is that it wasn't.

Everyone here pines for Jimmy, and what he did repeat as much as anything? That the turnover battle is key. Not that you have to score 30 points, but that you can't turn the ball over. Check the stats. I'm not a stat guy and don't have a website handy, but when you lose the turnover battle you will lose the game. It has the highest correlation to wins of any stat out there.

For all the complaints about how awful our defense was, it gave up fewer points than the Giants' defense did. Think about it.

And kidcrook... I'm with you. I shouldn't even come here as often as I do after losses, but I guess I'm addicted. I'm going to work on that, though.

He was off in the 1st half of the Bucs game, but the 2nd half he was pretty good. He hit Roy on that slant in perfect stride, or else Roy doesn't take the for 6.

No, he really didn't... he completed less than 60 per cent of his passes (16 of 27, 59.3%), while his career completion percentage was over 63.6% per cent going into this season... he missed a number of open receivers, one of them would have gone for big yardage...

While he did throw for 353 yards, that came on 3 TD passes that combined accounted for 168 yards, and most of those yards came on run after the catch by the receivers... his receivers took medium gains and turned them into big gains...

I'm not saying it was a bad game by Romo, but it was far from him at his best... he simply wasn't as accurate as we've become accustomed to him being... and let's face it, his quarterback rating thus far this season is a mediocre 82.4, compared to his career QBR of 94.8 going into 2009... bottom line, Tony Romo has not been up to his usual standards in his first 2 games of 2009...

What are some of you guys talking about?

Speaking for myself, I'm talking about REALITY, as I've seen it with my own two eyes in these first two games... now, I'm not saying that Romo will continue underperforming, to the contrary, I'm confident that he will get his game back, and win us a few games with his arm this year...

This week reminded me of one of the rules I put in place to govern myself when dealing with this site.

That's a rule I follow too, and my comments in this thread are most emphatically not based on knee-jerk overreaction... they're based on what I've seen from Tony in his first two games this season... they're based on my dispassionate analysis of what I've seen...

I have been, and remain, a big Romo fan, but he has not played his best ball, or anywhere close to it, thus far this season... I don't know why that is, but I sure am hoping he gets back to form real soon...

Thanks for making the whole being-a-Cowboys-fan process more difficult for me.

Hey, I like to look on the bright side, and even started a thread yesterday titled "Silver Linings", wherein I outlined the bright spots I saw in the loss Sunday night... on other boards, I have playfully been dubbed "Pollyanna Bear"... but apparently you want nothing but sunshine pumped up your skirt... if that's the case, then you're right, you're in the wrong place... I will look for the positive, but I will not ignore the negative (at the same time, I will jump on those who are either being overly negative, or who never talk about anything but the negative)...

And exactly where did you get the notion that this board existed to make you "happy"?? LOL...

He made some good throws, but way too many bad ones...

Part of my point right there... our defense is AWFULLL. Not forcing any turnovers is a big part of it. They can't cover a brick wall right now either. Newman looks just as bad as any of them and he's supposed be be a superstar? Everyone needs to get better and focus as a collective unit or we arn't going anywhere. Sure Romo could play better but as i said, as off a game as he had, he played well enough for us to win that game. We would have had it if our D could get any stops at all. They are painful to watch right now.

...and again right here. Our defense may have given up less points, but the Giants defense FORCES TURNOVERS. They make plays. Our defense does not. Plain and simple. The defensive unit is miles away from respectable right now.

31 points SHOULD make you the winner.. except when you turn the ball over 4 times which directly resulted in almost the same amount of points our offense scored.

There's only so much a defense can do if the offense continues to turn the ball over and put them in crappy positions.

Turnovers are caused by teh defense making plays. Our defense had as much of a chance if not more to make plays on the ball or get in on the pass rush and force a fumble or create some negative plays. Its not all on the offense. At some point your defense has to force some turnovers as well. The Giants defense can do that. Ours isn't even close. They have playmakers on defense and that's what gets you TO's. We don't have playmakers. We need to get better on defense.

I agree, but you cant look at the 33 point the Giants scored and blame it entirely on the defense. That would be ridiculously stupid.

All those points arn't on the defense no. Not what i'm saying. Just that we scored plenty that the defense should have at least gotten a few more stops or caused a TO or two. That's all it would have taken for us to win the game.

The defense definitely needs to turn it up a notch and Romo needs to cut down on the turnovers, but the one good thing is this isn't December. I'd rather have these problems now in the early part of the season, than late in the season. Alot of time left for Romo, Ware, and compoany to get this team headed in the right direction.

I didn't say Romo wasn't off his game. But...he was ranked in the top 5 QB's after week one, maybe higher. Do you recall how many yards Tampa Bay put up on us in total offense? Were it not for Romo's 3 TD passes that game - we could be staring at 0-2. The defense is playing FAR worse than Romo is. This, IMO...is a complete no brainer. The writing was on the wall after TB put up over 400 yards on us. They still have yet to record a sack or a turnover and are damn near ranked last in the league in overall defense.
