I personally don't like using lighter fluids to get my charcoals going but i don't want to spend too much time trying to get them started either. The Chimney is reliable, very easy to use, it works fast, and its reusable.

I've never used one or seen one used. Found this video a moment ago. Looks good.

If you're using anything other than this for your grilling and smoking needs, you're dead to me!!

Also, the Sam's Club here in Lubbock and in Las Cruces are selling large bags of lump charcoal for 14.99. It may be a regional thing.

It may not be regional, but it is seasonal. I went Sat w/ my neighbor and we split a half a pallet between the 2 of of us. That's 24, 40 Lbs bags. At $15 a bag. That's too good a bargain to pass up, and I don't plan on running out of lump charcoal like I did this past January, then having to pay Home Depot's ripoff price for a bag 1/4 the size.

Lump charcoal IS the way to go, and chimney starters are a terrific way to prep your fuel. If you're adding lighter fluid to charcoal you deserve to have your man card revoked followed by a roundhouse kick to the gonads.

As for the metal coffee can thing....who buys coffee in metal cans these days? :D

Seriously, those things are cheap, and it doesn't require ruining a pair of vise grips in the process. ;)

LOL. I went back to Home Depot yesterday and picked up a grill cover, a tool set and a bag of that. :)

So what's the main advantage of lump chacoal? Flavor? Heat distribution?

Dude, take it back, seriously! You can get a 40 Lbs bag for $15 at your nearest Sam's. That 10-20 Lbs bag you bought at HD probably cost that.

Lump burns hotter, longer and with way less ash left over. Some say it also doesn't leave the "aftertaste" that briquette charcoal can, but if you use a name-brand briquette, and don't use lighter fluid, that usually isn't an issue.

My favorite thing about using lump is the reduction of ash. Briquettes leave at least 50% more ash than the same amount of lump.

If you grill often, the savings from stocking up on lump charcoal at Sam's Club, while they have it, will easily pay your membership fee for the year. $15 for a 40 pound bag is unbeatable.

Charcoal is for girly men.

REAL men use all natural coal...not CHARcoal.

Real coal gets that burger and nice dark black and makes it taste great, also is good for you body...or at least that is what the coal companies use to tell the miners.;)
