I got myself a 2005 Harley Sportster 1200C. 9,500 miles on it. Got it for $8k out the door. I am pretty excited to start riding that bad boy! It is really, REALLY loud, too. My neighbors are gonna love me.

Sweet!!! Post some pics. I'm shopping for a new Harley, but I have been for 6 months now :bang2: . I can't make up my mind what I want. I've owned 2. One got destroyed by an old lady's car in a parking lot. I sold the other one to clear some debt.

Now I am going through withdrawals.

That's great.

I rode my motorcycle to the Hall of Fame induction ceremony last weekend (a 4 day trip). Had a great time on a wide variety of state hwys and county roads. The countryside was beautiful.

I don't know your background, but if you haven't already, you truly owe it to yourself and your family to take a motorcycle training course: link The importance of proper technique and a good background on accident prevention (e.g., identifying and avoiding hazardous situations) can't be emphasized enough. Trial and error learning isn't the way to go with motorcycles.

Thanks for bringing up the motorcycle training course Zero. I think that's helped a lot of people, including myself, ride safer.

Congrats. I just bought my fourth bike project last week...sometime next year I'll have a few of these puppies done.

I agree about the motorcycle training course. It saves you some loot on the insurance too.

There is a "bikers" thread in here somewhere...you should take some pics and post 'em in there.

Now when you grow up, you can get a real motorcycle.:D

PS When your neighbors get tired of you being a boorish biker, they can have an ordinance passed against loud pipes on motorcycles a la Daytona and other communities. "Loud pipes lose rights."

I HATE loud motorcycle's.

I have my M licence and have had a Bike before.

Congrats! Sporties are excellent bikes, but PLEASE respect it. Lots of people make the mistake of buying a sporty because they think it is a good bike to learn on, while it isn't a Busa it is still a very quick bike. Pretty agile too.Definately take the MSF course, I took mine from http://texasrider.com/ . Very good course. They have good bikes to learn on too. I believe the were Honda nighthawks. 250 cc's of japanese muscle! lol If you ever make it over East Texas way let me know I will show you a few nice rides.

Thanks, fellas. I am actually signing up for the safety course on Tuesday. I made the deal for the bike and got financed on Saturday but since I didn't have it insured yet I have to wait until Tuesday to bring it home. As soon as it's here I will take some pictures.

Oh, and needforspeed, the Sportster is what I can afford right now. When my two teenagers split I'll probably give the Sporty to the Mrs. and get into a Softail Custom. That one has always been my favorite.

I was talking about Harleys in general. Talk about the emperor's new clothes.

You don't like Harleys? Fine. I'm not interested in a rice-burner bike.

There's always one jerk waiting to piss in the punchbowl.

:moon:

Ok, so I got the bike home today. Here are a few pics. (Disregard the unbeknownst-to-me-while-these-were-being-taken wrong date.)

Only because I saw a turd in it.

PS I'd rather have a "rice burner" (nice racist euphemism) than an oil leaking POS Harley.

Riding is more important than what you ride.

I especially like those wheels, Tass. I thought the Custom came with spokes.

Thanks, man. The aftermarket wheel was one of the things the previous owner put on the bike. He spent about $3k on upgrades.

There ya go man. Not bad for a first bike at all. My Fatboy had the black and maroon color scheme on it, but it was a different pattern. It shines and waxes really nice with those colors.
