BOWMAN ISN’T A BIRD
Posted by Mike Florio on May 1, 2008, 2:51 p.m.

We’ve been flooded today with e-mails from PFT Planeteers in Philly asking about Internet reports (man, I hate those) that the Eagles have inked Oklahoma State receiver Adarius Bowman.

Per a league source with knowledge of the situation, the Eagles have not signed Bowman. We’re also told that they will not sign him.

Bowman was expected to be a first-day draft pick. An April 14 guilty plea to marijuana possession hurt him, and he ultimately wasn’t drafted.

There should be no reason why a pot bust or two, should keep a team from taking a UFA chance on a guy who was supposed to be a 1st day pick. Where is the risk? This is very strange.

Yes, it is strange. I hope we hear the whole story at some point as I think it will be interesting.

If he did get a 12 month suspended sentence and then got caught again, he would have to be away for twelve months and then suffer Goodell's suspension after that. But, for a talent like that, most clubs would sign him and wait if that was the only thing. The Cowboys waited four years on Roger Staubach to play.

We should bring him in. $1000 signing bonus, is better than nothing.

That would be collusion, but it sure looks like that's what is taking place.
I agree because first it was reported dallas signed him then eagles.. I thought it was just agent rumors to drive intrest..but now it looks like he has been blackballed

maybe he smoked for medical reasons.....if he could just get a doctors excuse, maybe we could sign him to a UDFA contract.

Maybe he is trying to sign a deal for more than what his free agent status warrants. I am not exactly sure how those contracts work, but maybe he is trying to get first or second round WR money as a free agent and teams are not willing to fork over the amount he is asking. I wouldn't be too surprised either. For the last two years, he just knew that he was going to be one of the top receivers chosen, and the contracts being offered to him might seem like an insult for his talent level.

If the above is true, he needs to see the situation for what it is and take what he can get, prove his talent, and then hope to sign a huge contract.

Honestly I think all rooks should have to do just that. No matter where they are drafted. The rookie salaries are getting outrageous.

Is he a drug dealer or a user? How much did he get caught with on both occasions?

Maybe that is the difference between him and Talib/ Manningham.

If he is just a user who got caught with it versus a user that tested positive for it that is just semantics IMO.

If the Koren Robinsons, Leonard Little's and Jeremay Stevens of this world get multiple chances there is really no reason Bowman should not be given another shot.
