after the events of yesterday regarding the Malaysian Airline jet gunned down by pro-Russian separatists, what are the chances of the US team boycotting the 2018 World Cup in Russia?

I agree 100% it will be unlikely they boycott it over this tragedy. However, if you want me to project more crap going down because of Russia and the US and other Western European nations boycotting the World Cup? If say it's not completely impossible. Wars have started for dumber reasons

russia and the us is a very real loggerhead that likely moves much more quickly than a mere boycott 4 years away.

Just as Reagan said many years age.The Soviet Union was and still is an evil empire. Just because Russia has abandoned communism does not mean they are an ally. They still should be viewed as an enemy.
The U.S. should boycott the World Cup and any sporting event held in Russia,China or any anti American county.Even the Olympics. And make no mistake, these countries hate us.
And I would boycott the World Cup anywhere because soccer sucks.

I disagree, if we really felt that strongly, we wouldn't trade with Russia or China. Boycotting a sporting event means nothing imo.

I would say about the same as the 2014 winter Olympics boycott. Everyone will talk about doing it but no one actually will

For most Americans there will be a de facto boycott anyhow due to time zones, the major reason this year's World Cup had a higher tv rating is because Brazil is only two hours ahead of Central standard time, the ability to watch games was palatable and not in the wee hours.
