BP and RBs and Julius Jones

1) In JJ's rookie season in a preseason game, JJ was on one-knee tapping his helmet after taking a hit. Parcells just glared at him and glared at him and glared at him. It was just the way BP glared at Larry Allen during BP's first year here. Richie Anderson later explained it. As a RB for BP, you never, and I repeat, never let those opposing 11 players know that they hurt you. JJ seemed to have got the message last year. The RB has to be a team leader and a warrior. Is JJ either right now?
2) After JJ's second injury, the high ankle sprain, BP spelled it out in no uncertain terms. A RB has to make the right cuts, make players miss, AND stay healthy. JJ hasn't stayed healthy(missed like 12 out of 29 games) and he is not making the right cuts now and is not making the players miss.
3) BP called the RBs out last week. Said someone has to make a play, a spark, a long run. MB responded. JJ did not.
4) BP said he does not tolerate toe-tippers. You hit the hole and you hit it with everything you got. That's the way BP teaches it and demands it. Is JJ that type of RB? Does JJ want to be that type of RB?
5)BP does not tolerate players crying for playing time. A-Train cried for PT and was shown the door. Same with Peerless. How will JJ react if MB gets the ball more. If JJ says the wrong thing or starts to complain...or throws a t-shirt ala AB...He will be traded.
6) To quote BP: "There are no built-in excuses." The high ankle sprain means nothing. AH's groin injury is no excuse.
7) BP has said he is always looking to upgrade a position. If BP finds what he wants and can get it, he will. Especially at the all-important RB position.
8) IMO, JJ is one injury away from entering BP's "Dog Hotel."

Why hasn't JJ been talking to the media? Doesn't sound like a happy camper to me. Is something brewing here? I personally hope that there is nothing there and JJ will become the RB that BP wants. But it would not surprise me to see a trade this offseason.

P.S. I don't hate Julius (actually one of my favorite players) and don't want to see a trade... but BP is BP and it seems like there is some writing on the wall.

Disagree completely. In his PC's, you can listen to the way he talks about Julius. That's his guy. BP wants him to succeed.

Absolutely agree. Marion is obviously playing better than Julius but Bill continuously defends him in the PCs. I believe Bill desperately wants him to succeed. Julius is his guy for better or for worse.

Julius not going anywhere. Even if Barber steals the starting job, JJ will be around for a long while.

The writing on the wall is this.....JJ is coming off a high ankle sprain and won't be back strong until next year. Anybody who has had a high ankle sprain will tell you it takes about 6 months to fully heal and that is with lots of rest. There is no doubt in my mind that Parcells has faith in JJ to get the job done or he wouldn't be starting.

You don't get 6 months to heal in this league. There are no "built-in excuses." How many high ankle sprains did Emmitt have? How many did Dorsett have? Jim brown? Payton? How many injuries before you get the label "injury-prone," or "can't take a hit?" And if your RB is the heart and soul of the team, what does that say if he's sitting on the bench with this or that injury time after time? There are no leaders sitting on the bench.

I wouldn't get too upset about anything just yet. These things have a way of sorting themselves out. My best guess is that Julius bounces back strong eventually. In the meantime, just be glad Barber has played so well.

Those ankle injuries don't heal overnight! Have you ever had one???? Furthermore, have you ever tried to play football on an injured ankle? It sounds like you have less confidence in JJ than Parcells. I'll trust his judgement and see where JJ ends up.... My bet is that he will split time with MBIII. After all Parcells doesn't want to run JJ 30 times a game...

I have played football with a high ankle spain/torn ligaments in my foot. But I played Oline/LB in HS. It was tough but you have to overcome it.

JJ is being outplayed by someone who wasnt even scouted as much or liked as much as some 5 to 10 RB's drafted before him. MB3 is playing on 3rd down and making holes for himself, unlike JJ. JJ did that last year and hasnt stayed healthy. We will find out if he was a 1 year wonder or is the real thing next year, if he isnt he will be traded, and if he is, and outplays MB3 next year Barber will be gone. BP can always bring in more RB's it always has been the one thing that he scouts best.

:hammer:
And that's how we know Parcells realizes that Julius is still injured. If Julius were truly healthy and still top-dipped like he has been, Parcells would never stand behind him like he has.

I played on a partially torn ACL in HIGH SCHOOL.... you can get away with it there.... This is the NFL and the speed of the game is much faster. WE don't have the inside scoop on the ankle situation so all we're left to do is speculate. I don't like the "hasn't stayed healthy" remark that soooo many people use.... When you're tackled and someone rolls up on you there's not much you can do about it!!!!

And there is nothing to accelarate the healing process. And the fact that he wasnt playing all that good before the injury adds to it. Next is the year JJ must prove to BP that he is worth resigning after his rookie deal is up.

BP will do everything in his power to see that he succeeds.... I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon..... Barring a MAJOR injury.

I suffered a high ankle sprain 2 years ago, it hurts to this day. I was bruised from toe to knee from a freakin' sprain. I think most people hear the word "sprain" and dismiss it as a soft injury, when in reality it can be very severe and difficult to overcome in a short amount of time.

Like I said I was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain and broken ligaments in my foot and still finished out the season (8 games) without this kind of brusing. It was very painful, but then again my trainer taped the crap out of my ankle. The torn ligaments werent soothing either...

I still played with pain the rest of the year but that doesnt account for the games where JJ looked tenative.

LB's don't do nearly as much cutting and torqueing the ankles as RB's...... Plus we're talking about 250 and 300 pound tackles, DE's and lbs here not high school players.........

I blame some of JJ's problems on BP trying to change how he runs. Why would you mess with what wroked so well last year? I think he needs to have sit down with BP and ask why? ALso I think he needs to just relax and trust his instincts. The ankle sprain is a problem- but I also think that he SHOULD NOT have bulked up- I think that it has affected his flexibility, balance and therefore his ability to move quickly. Add tot hat trying to keep two hands on the ball TOO much of the time.

He'll be alright. JJ has to have been told something by Parcells because he runs completly different. But Parcells is playing his cards right, start JJ and let him get some carries so he doesn't get down on himself. Playing MB the other half of the time. Its good scenario and its working. Did you watch the giants game?, JJ seemed to be the only bright spot and was starting to look like himself of last year but not completly. At least thats what I thought

JJ is just not trusting himself because of injuries. And he is not being a wimp or any of that. The injuries he had, just happened, chit happens.

Just decide the starter next year during training camp and I have a pretty good feeling its going to be Julius.

I cant believe that we have people who take having 2 RB's as a bad thing. You guys should be happy that BP decided we needed a capable RB if Jones got hurt this year, and Barber has exceeded expectations.

Folks, Jones needs time to heal from this injury. He will be back to normal by next year. Until then, be happy we have a guy like Barber.

Instead of complaining, or trying to overanalyze a great situation, why not just chill out and enjoy the fact we have 2 capable starters on our team at RB
