I don't think the Jets want to have anything to do with Parcells...I live in NY and haven't heard a single word spoken about Parcells coming back...in fact, Francesca mentioned that the Jets don't even want to have a Parcells disciple on their staff.

If BP leaves then he truly deserves our contempt, especially given his vehement denials. I'd also find it objectionable if he gets an extention with a significant raise. It's time for him to start justifying his salary. I want him to coach this year and show considerable improvement. If that doesn't happen, he should be fired (nevermind giving him a chance to think about retirement again.)

I want BP to stick around for as long as he wants to because he HAS made considerable improvement. Our Defense is solid, our running back situation is as good as anyone's in the league. Our WR and TE situation is solid. Although I do think a WR is the area we attack in the 1st round to bring in another young talented guy there to go with Crayton. BP will attack the OL problems in FA market, if anyone worth a crap is there. Then take a LT in the 2nd or 3rd round. The big question to me is, will Jerry Jones, allow BP to bring in our future QB this year or is JJ still commited to trying to convert a throw away baseball player to NFL QB. BP has done a very good job of building this team from the ground up since he has been here. There was NOT a lot of talent on this team when he got here. If we can pull off another draft like the last one, just on the O side of the ball, this team will be set with young talent for years to come. All while managing to stay out of Cap trouble. To me, that is considerable improvement over the last 3 or so coaches we had. Becareful what you wish for, there are more Chan G. in this world, than Bill P's.

I think Bill Parcells has done a very good job in the player personnel department, but at the end of the day, our mediocre record speaks for itself. There are a number of other teams who weren't very good three years ago (Skins, Jacksonville, Giants, Seattle, Chicago) who are now in the playoffs. So on the performance end of things, I don't think Parcells really has any excuse. Again, if after this next year, things haven't improved significantly, the decision as to whether Parcells stays on as coach shouldn't be his to make.

I can see your point. But to me, this team performed pretty well this year. I look back on the season, and we are 4 plays away from having the same record as the Seagulls. The job of the coach is to put your team in a postion to win every game. Bill P did that, for 15 of the 16 games anyway. The fact that the players didn't execute with the game on the line is not Bill P fault. He can't get out there and kick the FGs. Any kicker in this league should be money from inside 40 yards and i can't fathom how our kickers missed so many this year. With all the injuries on D, with the injury to Adams, and the sub par play from the OL for most of the games, i am amazed we did as well as we did. I had us picked at 10-6 before the season started and with a fairly heathly team and a reliable kicker, which we have had the last couple of years, from inside the 40 anyway, we would have surpassed that easily. Hard to coach against bad luck. Although, I do think next year is Bill P's last year, regardless of what else happens. I sure hope Peyton moves on before then, so he is not our next HC.

You know, I really hate it when people start overhyping prospects...particularly from the Pacific Northwest. Bigfoot is not coming from a major program, and has not really played against top line competition. In fact, I have it on good authority that he runs away and hides frequently (does not "show up" for games). On the other hand, I have heard good things about his speed and broken field running ability.

Good post, shows the difference between potential and results.

We have the potential to be a good team, those others are are good and in the playoffs. BP simply did not get it done.

Right. I forgot how limited and unmotivated Glover and Ellis were. Once we get rid of those slackers, watch out!

Furthermore, I imagine it might get more and more difficult to believe in a coach who can't seem to decide if he wants to see out his contract. For the life of me, I can't understand why Parcells constantly gets the benefit of the doubt (not just here, but around the league as well), when any other coach who consistently flaked out on his team would be raked over the coals (look at the harsh treatment Larry Brown got in the press. At least he gave the Pistons a title before ditching.)

I imagine there are a number of teams who were "4 plays away" from having a playoff-worthy record. And like it's been said a million times before, it works both ways: we could have just as easily lost to the Chargers, Giants, Eagles and Panthers were it not for a missing player, a fortunate coin flip, a gift interception, and a questionable penalty. The point is, s%@t happens, and the record is the ultimate barometer of success.

As well, Parcells has had more than enough to fix the kicking problem. It amused me to no end how people hailed the return of Cundiff as if he were the second coming. Cundiff sucked, Cortez sucked even harder, and I expect Suisham to be similarly orally fixated as well. Parcells loves rolling out the old 'you are what you are' cliche. Well in 3 years, the Cowboys have been an average team, nothing more, nothing less. I'm giving him one more year to fix this mess. After that, if nothing has changed, it should be time for a new coach.
