Our DL is our teams strength. We actually have depth. We need to play to our strength and use these guys as we did yesterday.
Amen!!!
The fact the rotation no longer includes the Stewarts and Brookes, the 'impact players' are not named Wiley or Ekuban, and Bill no longer has to moan "well, we really didn't plan on having Glover play so many snaps, we wanted to rest him more, BUT" for the third consecutive year, is the difference.
We do not yet have four high impact 3-4 linebackers, and the learning curve is steep there.
But we do have real talent and serious depth on the dline.
We can now get pressure and fresh legs to ensure it continues without mega bltizing.
One note on Fergy - yes, he can and does play 3-4 nose well.
But his most solid play came in the 4-3 creating an opening for the three tech tackle alongside him. That is what his excellent year in NY last season was based on. When the Jets went to a 3-4, it was Robinson who almost exclusively played the nose.
If Ferg can play Booger MacFarland to La'Roi's Warren Sapp, we got something special. It didn't take Jim Burt to make us aware Glover is our best defensive lineman, andn just how good we would get to see with him more consistently aligned alongside Jason.
I sure don't see the 4-3, whether in 'looks' or in base philosophy, going anywhere.
