Not bad, but I disagree here:

Hodge will beat them both out. I think Williams is too green and he won't have to really try with Carpenter.

I think you are on the right track.

If Williams isn't ready, Hodge could beat Carpenter out. I hope he does if Williams isn't ready for the coverage duties.

I look for Phillips to blitz Jason Williams early.

I agree that Hodge will be Carpenter's primary opposition for the role because Williams has too much to learn about coverage. But I disagree that he will beat out Carpenter (this year) because I think this job is suited to Carpenter's abilities.

Eventually, the job will belong to Hodge because Carp will either leave the first chance he gets in free agency or Dallas will decide Hodge can handle the nickel role and replace Carp with someone who can contend for a starting role.

Since there are 2 nickel LBs shouldn't they both get one. I know Bradie usually plays it but he's awful more than 10 yards away from the LOS. Put two of the three (Hodge, Williams, Carp) out there and let them run. I think its a perfect fit for all three of those guys.

You know I'm torn on that idea myself.

On one hand, Bradie means alot to this defense, and while he isnt the greatest in coverage, I want him out there on the field.

On the other hand, he is a weaklink in coverage. We have linebackers that can move better than he can, but do not do the other things well like James does.

I guess at the end of the day I want him out there over a rookie or Carp, but a year or two down the road I will not be upset by any means to see Bradie become a 2-down LB

It's possible. Dallas kept James on the field because it learned he could blitz well. If one of the rookies can blitz well and cover well, then James could end up on the sideline because of his lack of great coverage skills.

Overall it's very well written, I enjoyed the thought you put into it. There are a couple of typos but aside from that, maybe you could write for DMN?
They SUCK. :p:

Thank you very much for your encouragement...I am actually applying to cover the Cowboys for a different media source. I'm crossing my fingers.

Well this is the year Bobby has to prove himself and not be able to be propped up by the "he isn't really getting enough chances" excuse.

His chance is there and if he's as good as he thinks he is, or BP thought he was, or whatever then he'll step up and show it.

I think a creative offensive coordinator should be able to get two backs -- such as Barber and Jones-- on the field at the same time. We all know Landry could have done it-- he always used the FB as a runner at times.

I think the possibilities are almost endless with Barber and Felix on the field together. You could lineup Barber at fullback and he would be a threat to run, block or catch. You could split Felix out at WR. Teams would have to decide if they go nickle with this lineup. I think we would kill them if they did not. If they do we should be effective running.

Yeah, I liked it as I commented on it at BR, too...Barbie still seems to be a nonfactor to me let alone a battle to watch...He, to me, is as much of a 'battle to watch' as Stanback is...They're fluff

I think if Jones proves to be an all around player eventually Barber and Choice will back him up. But neither runs like Barber. As long as he's moving the ball then it will be difficult to take too many carries away from him.

Garrett truly has a problem trying to find ways to get Barber/Choice and Jones on the field at the same time. I think trying to match up on a motioning Jones could be very difficult for a defense. At the least it would take resources away from other players. JMO.

Good luck. Every now and then it's nice to read football related articles at the NFL media spots. :p:
