Dan Murphy of ESPN.com reported an attorney for Lewis, who the Cowboys selected in the third round of the 2017 NFL draft, said during a pre-trial hearing Thursday they plan to contest the charge.
The 21-year-old Detroit native and University of Michigan product will face trial in Ann Arbor. His lawyer, John Shea, said the case is scheduled to begin Monday and he's hopeful it will conclude by Tuesday, according to Murphy.
Lewis has stated any contact between himself and the accuser came from his trying to exit the apartment, per ESPN.com. Police found "no visible injuries" at the scene.
In March, John Counts of MLive.com noted the woman called police and said there was a "physical altercation" at their residence. An investigation led to Lewis being charged with the misdemeanor.
Jon Machota of the Dallas Morning News passed along comments the defensive back made on the matter after being drafted by the Cowboys in April.
"Like I told everybody else, I completely think that all charges will be dropped," Lewis said. "I think I will be exonerated from everything. I'm completely innocent. I believe that wholeheartedly. And I'm just going to have to see what happens in my next trial date."
Dallas opened training camp Wednesday with the rookie reporting date, and veterans are due to arrive no later than Saturday. It's unclear exactly how much time Lewis will miss due to the trial.
