Eric Valadez of WFAA-TV in Dallas broke the news regarding Brent’s status:
Rebecca Lopez and Marjorie Owens of WFAA-TV in Dallas reported that Brent tested positive for marijuana after providing a urine sample on June 19. The duo’s report also notes that the defensive tackle tested positive for THC metabolite on May 24. Here’s an excerpt of what affidavit reads, per Lopez and Owens:
The defendant in this case has been repeatedly warned of the condition of pre-trial release in this case. His continued use of marijuana demonstrates a pattern of conduct in disregard of this court’s authority to properly supervise his pre-trial release.
Brent was originally arrested after a fatal crash in December of last year that killed Jerry Brown, a defensive end also on the Cowboys, according to Todd Archer of ESPN Dallas. Archer reported at the time that if found guilty of intoxicated manslaughter, Brent could face two-to-20 years in jail.
Brent and Brown were driving very fast at around 2:30 a.m. on a state highway until the car hit the curb, flipped once and skidded as far as 900 feet, police told Archer. Brent was arrested after failing a sobriety test, per Archer’s report.
Earlier this month, Brent was arrested for testing positive for marijuana, according to the Associated Press (h/t ESPN). Brent was required to wear an ankle alcohol monitor after that arrest, per the report. Brent had a bail revocation hearing scheduled for July 19, according to Calvin Watkins of ESPN Dallas.
The Cowboys drafted Brent in the seventh round of the 2010 NFL Supplemental draft. He had four sacks over the course of four years at Illinois. In 39 games with the Cowboys over the last three seasons, Brent had 31 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble.
