News: BR: Dak Prescott Says Tony Romo Left 'Big Shoes' to Fill as Cowboys QB

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott led his team to the postseason as a rookie, but he still appreciates his predecessor.

Prescott discussed Tony Romo on Saturday as the latter begins his broadcasting career following 156 games under center for Dallas, per the Cowboys' official website: "I hope he's happy. He made the decision to retire; he's had a great career. He's got some big shoes for me to fill to try to come in and do a good job for the Cowboys."

Prescott moved into the starting role because of Romo's preseason back injury but remained the top quarterback even after the Cowboys legend was healthier. It proved too difficult for head coach Jason Garrett to take Prescott out of the lineup as the Mississippi State product led Dallas to 13 wins and an NFC East crown.

"Me and Tony, we've always been great throughout this whole situation, before the situation when I came in (as the starter)," Prescott said. "So nothing's ever changed. That's something I'm very thankful were able to manage of keeping our relationship the same throughout everything that was going on."

Prescott will be tasked with filling Romo's shoes after he reached four Pro Bowls and threw for a franchise-record 34,183 yards. The youngster started off on the right foot with 3,667 passing yards, 23 touchdown throws and a mere four interceptions in 2016.

Now he will try to take the next step in the playoffs after losing in the NFC Divisional Round to the Green Bay Packers last season.
