There are two sides to the Johnny Manziel draft coin. Half the nation wouldn’t touch him with oven gloves; the other half wants to trade every first-round pick until Ragnarok just to move up and snag the former Texas A&M quarterback.
One Dallas Cowboys fan appears to be leading the charge for the latter half, having already customized and purchased a No. 2 “Manziel” Cowboys jersey.
Twitter user @Toby_Hermes (h/t Joe Kinsey of Busted Coverage) spotted the jersey at Wednesday night’s Texas Rangers game. This man is not messing around. If you’re looking for his chips, they’re the ones piled in the center of the table.
Nothing says “I’m all in” like purchasing a $129 “Custom Game Replica” jersey. This man is playing Manziel roulette with five in the chamber.
It’s all part of the increasingly zealous Jonathan Football blitz, however. Earlier this week a report surfaced claiming the Cowboys will “figure out a way to get Manziel.”
Tony Grossi of ESPN Cleveland reported on Monday that sportscaster Jim Nantz has heard rumors claiming the Cowboys will do whatever is necessary to trade up from the 16th pick and snag the 2012 Heisman Trophy winner.
“I’ve heard this rumor for a month,” Nantz told Grossi. “The Cowboys will figure out a way to get Manziel. Wherever Manziel goes, there is going to be more clamoring about Johnny Manziel than there would be about Blake Bortles going No. 1 or [Jadeveon] Clowney going No. 1.”
While all of this chatter should be taken with a shaker of salt, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is the kind of character who would ostensibly try such a move. Jones goes for big air, and no other move would draw more eyeballs or cause a bigger ruckus than moving up and bringing Manziel in as the eventual successor to Tony Romo.
People would tune in to Cowboys games just to watch Manziel sit on the bench and run the occasional Wildcat/gimmick scheme, a la Tebow.
And who knows? Once the Romo yips and picks start to fall around December... Well, let’s not go any further down this rabbit hole.
There are plenty of franchises ahead of the Cowboys seemingly slavering at the mouth at the prospect of pulling the hair trigger on Manziel.
This fan is putting all sorts of horses in front of his cart, and he’ll likely be out a cool $129 plus shipping by the end of the draft. But that’s the fun with Johnny Football. You play Manziel roulette for the rush.
Manziel roulette > Chatroulette.
