In a development that could really help the Dallas Cowboys offense, Kansas City Chiefs third cornerback Dunta Robinson may be unavailable for today's game at Arrowhead Stadium.
According to ESPN's Ed Werder, Robinson has missed preparations for the Cowboys all week due to a family matter. While not officially ruled out, the 10th-year veteran out of South Carolina is not expected to see any action.
While top corners Brandon Flowers and Sean Lee will be suited up for action, this actually opens up opportunity for an area of strength for the Dallas offense.
Robinson likely would have seen plenty of action in the slot against a combination of Cowboys receivers Miles Austin, Terrance Williams and Dwayne Harris. Instead, Kansas City will have to dig deep into its depth chart to fill the void with corners like rookie Marcus Cooper out of Rutgers or undrafted Ron Parker, a third-year veteran who has already bounced around the league quite a bit in just two seasons in the league.
Expect this situation to be exploited immediately by Dallas offensive coordinator Bill Callahan. The Cowboys will be looking for any and all opportunities to move the ball quickly and keep the Kansas City crowd as quiet as possible.
Robinson's absence might tempt Chiefs defensive coordinator Bob Sutton to keep his safeties a little deeper since the Cowboys have numerous options available to get the ball deep down the middle of the field. The presence of receiver Dez Bryant will likely already accomplish this, but now it's a virtual certainty.
How this ends up effecting the Dallas rushing attack remains to be seen, but at least Dallas quarterback Tony Romo knows that there might be a little less to worry about as he likely will have to throw the ball more than 40 times at Arrowhead.
