Sunday's clash between the Dallas Cowboys and the New Orleans Saints figures to be one of this season's premier firework shows. According to NFL.com, both of these teams are in the league's Top 10 in passing offense.
Take a moment to ponder what you'll see on Sunday. Drew Brees to Jimmy Graham and Marques Colston. Tony Romo to Dez Bryant and Jason Witten.
The explosiveness of Darren Sproles and DeMarco Murray.
A determined Rob Ryan out to prove his worth as a respected defensive coordinator against his former team, the Cowboys.
The talented offensive minds of Jason Garrett and Sean Payton in a chess match.
Anyone have goosebumps yet? Twitter seems to. Here is some of what Twitter is saying about this barn burner.
Even the video game world is buzzing over this matchup.
Now that the hairs on our heads are standing straight, it's time to commence the smack talk.
Judging by these tweets, Cowboys fans seem to be oozing with confidence going into this showdown. They narrowly escaped the lowly Minnesota Vikings 27-23 last week at home.
If Dallas can pull this game out, however, it's a definite statement win. Teams that are truly playoff-caliber win games like these on the road.
Still, only in the NFC East can a team be in first place with a 5-4 record. The Cowboys have their divisional foes' pathetic play to thank for their fortunate positioning.
Even as a Cowboys fan, I think Dallas will leave the Superdome Sunday night as a .500 team.
I have no doubts about Tony Romo's ability to move the offense through the air. The inconsistent running game is very concerning, though.
At some point, the Saints' fifth-best passing defense, per ESPN, could make things difficult for Romo late in the game if Dallas can't run the ball effectively.
I have nightmares about Drew Brees shredding the Dallas secondary to pieces all game.
On that front, Sean Lee will be critical in trying to slow down Jimmy Graham. But he'll need help and probably won't get enough from the putrid Dallas secondary.
It'll be a riveting shootout, but in the end the Saints are just a bit too much. The Cowboys won't be able to rekindle their 2009 Christmas magic in the dome.
My prediction:
Saints 38, Cowboys 31
