The Dallas Cowboys will be looking to win three straight games for the first time since the end of the 2014 campaign when they travel to the coast this weekend to take on the San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium.

Led by rookie quarterback Dak Prescott, the Cowboys have tallied consecutive straight-up wins without Tony Romo in the lineup for the first time since the star pivot became the club's starter a decade ago.

The 49ers have fallen flat since opening the season with a 28-0 win over Los Angeles, surrendering 83 total points in a pair of blowout road losses in Carolina and Seattle, failing to cover in each as double-digit underdogs.

Point spread: This game opened as a pick'em; the total was 44 early in the week, according to sportsbooks monitored by Odds Shark. (Line updates and matchup report)

NFL pick, via Odds Shark computer: 24.4-22.4 49ers (NFL picks on every game)

Why the Cowboys can cover the spread

Prescott continued his meteoric rise last week, powering Dallas to scores on its first four possessions in a 31-17 thrashing of the Chicago Bears as 6.5-point road chalk on Sunday night.

The 23-year-old has also effectively orchestrated an offense that has generated 134 rushing yards per game and tallied an impressive 25.7 points per game after scoring fewer than 16.0 points per game in six of its final 10 outings last season.

Despite last year's struggles the Cowboys have proven to be a tough opponent on the road, posting SU and against-the-spread wins in three of their past five and holding the home team to 16 or fewer points in four of six.

Why the 49ers can cover the spread

The 49ers wilted in the face of two of the NFL's best defensive corps in Carolina and Seattle. However, the Cowboys have allowed over 400 yards twice in their past five games, and an average of 130 rushing yards per game in their past five.

With the status of tight ends Vance McDonald and Garrett Celek unclear, San Francisco will rely on rusher Carlos Hyde, who ran for 103 yards and two touchdowns last week and has run for 88 or more yards in two of San Francisco's last three SU wins.

The Niners have also proven to be a solid bet at home, covering in six of nine including their last four as underdogs of three or fewer points.

Smart pick

With Prescott at the helm the Cowboys are on a roll, and Dallas has SU wins in four of its last six games against San Francisco. Look for the Cowboys to continue their winning ways with a SU and ATS victory against the Niners on Sunday.

Betting trends

The Cowboys are 3-1 SU in their last four games against the 49ers.

The 49ers are 15-5 SU and ATS in their last 20 games in October.

The 49ers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games after consecutive losses.
