McFadden's Injury History; Impact on Cowboys Offense

The former Arkansas star is in his first season with the Cowboys. A first-round pick (fourth overall) in 2008, McFadden came to Dallas after a disappointing seven-year stint with the Oakland Raiders. A combination of injuries and ineffectiveness has limited him to one 1,000-yard season, which came all the way back in 2010.

McFadden has missed three or more games in six seasons, with a total of 29 DNPs for his career to date. He has only topped 200 carries in his career twice and has scored more than five rushing touchdowns once, which are demerits rooted in his inability to stay healthy. While he was largely effective for his first couple of seasons, the last three proved the myriad issues were starting to catch up.

After averaging 4.8 yards per carry in his first four seasons, McFadden has been well below the 4.0 clip in the last three and sits at 3.8 this year. He's failed to break a run longer than 30 yards since 2012, devolving into a plodding player who gains ground in three-yard chunks.

Still, the Cowboys desperately need him on the field. McFadden has been surprisingly effective since earning the starting job, posting two 100-yard games despite the Cowboys' trouble at quarterback. With Tony Romo due back from injury in Week 11, Dallas could be as close to full strength as it's been all season.
