Tony Romo was slinging the rock, hitting his favorite receiver in Dez Bryant with his second of three first-half touchdown tosses. While the NFL's leading rusher, DeMarco Murray, struggled to produce yards, he did have a one-yard TD plunge to give fantasy owners some consolation.
America's Team blitzed the outmatched Colts early, per ESPN Stats & Info:
A penalty on Indianapolis' best cornerback couldn't even stop Bryant from his 19-yard charge to the end zone in the opening quarter:
Since Murray is the leader by a long shot in rushing yards and has such a good line blocking for him, he was going to be deployed in fantasy championships around the world no matter what. That was in spite of a broken bone in his hand that slowed him.
Even though Romo's health is a perpetual question mark, he has still managed to put together perhaps his best season ever. Having a strong Murray-led rushing attack helps, as does the Cowboys' defensive improvement, but Romo deserves credit for his exceptional form, particularly in Week 16.
Only Aaron Rodgers entered Sunday's games with a better yards-per-attempt average and passer rating than Romo, and even with Murray's success, Romo is eighth in the NFL in TD passes. That made him a QB1 fantasy play, and that won't change in Week 17's showdown with Washington's 21st-ranked pass defense.
Bryant led the NFL with 13 TD receptions even before he hauled in another score at AT&T Stadium, so he too is an elite fantasy commodity regardless of the matchup.
