Escobar Out for Season

Saturday, Dec. 19

Per Charean Williams of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said Escobar suffered a torn Achilles and will miss the last two games of the season.

Escobar suffered the injury on the final play of Dallas' 19-16 loss against the Jets, stumbling to the ground after quarterback Kellen Moore took the shotgun snap from the center. He will end the season with eight catches for 64 yards and one touchdown.

The Cowboys drafted the 24-year-old in the second round of the 2013 NFL draft. He has appeared in all 14 games this year, starting four, as the primary backup to Jason Witten in Dallas' offensive rotation.

This marks Escobar's first significant injury in his NFL career. The former San Diego State star appeared in all 16 games in each of the previous two years in addition to the first 14 this season.

Dallas is fortunate to have depth at tight end behind Witten, so Escobar's absence won't leave a huge hole. James Hanna, who had one catch for 17 yards against the Jets, will move into the No. 2 tight end role, with rookie Geoff Swaim elevating to the No. 3 spot.
