This Dak stuff has gotten way out of hand. It is past comical, it is pathetic. He did well in the first preseason game of the year. That is great, but there are thousands of preseason stars that never started or had an impact in an NFL game. It is sad this seems to be the only thing that many fans can think of. Again, it is preseason against a simple defense and subpar talent.

They had plenty of their starters on the field.

And again, what is "simple" about man on man? You can make a discussion about zone being vanilla, but man on man is man on man. Those passes to Dez aren't easy just because it's preseason.

Dak was great in his debut, but let's see how he does tomorrow, next week, and the next couple of years. It took Tony 3.5 years to become good enough to be a starter in the NFL, so it really isn't fair to expect Dak to be that good from the get-go, IMO. He doesn't need that kind of pressure on him.

I don't doubt for a minute that Dak will be under the microscope vs. the Dolphins. I think there's a good chance that his performance won't equal nor surpass what he did last week vs, the Rams. The decision as to whether or not a vet backup might be pursued by the Cowboys will be up to the Dallas FO and staff, so whatever we might think will be of no consequence. Regardless, it will still be quite intriguing to see what happens.

Ill say this Matt Hasselbeck would be a good guy to have if you could get him off TV. Not to be a backup, but the mentor Prescott so that Romo can keep his focus on the field. A vet mentor is a solid idea even if they would be behind Prescott on the depth chart. But Id want one with some skins on the wall. Hasselbeck is the only one I can think of that has played atba Pro Bowl level in his career and I dont think he intends on "playing"

It is a nice idea though. He is also an even bigger dork then Romo. Those two would get along famously

Backup QBs aren't really there to be total replacements for whole seasons. The real question, especially for a playoff team, is can they win roughly 50% of the games in a shorter time period when the starter in out.

Last year Cowboy's backup QBs won a little less than 9% the games they started.
Given the OP I'd say Dak has just as much chance as anyone the Cowboys could get their hands on at this point.
