After leading the Dallas Cowboys to a 12-4 record, an NFC East title and a trip to the divisional round of the NFL playoffs, head coach Jason Garrett and the team have worked out a new contract to keep him in Dallas for the foreseeable future.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reported more on that front Tuesday, with ESPN's Todd Archer later confirming the move:

Nick Eatman of DallasCowboys.com reports financial details of the contract.

"According to multiple reports both inside and outside of Valley Ranch, Garrett is very close to signing a five-year, $30 million contract to remain the head coach of America's Team," Eatman writes. "The announcement could come as early as Tuesday evening."

Mike Fisher of Fox Sports shared the financial details:

Garrett has reiterated that he is keen to remain with the team, telling reporters on Tuesday, "Absolutely, I want to be here," per Kevin Patra of NFL.com.

He added, "We're proud of the team we've assembled, the staff we've assembled, the players we've brought in here. I think we're building it the right way."

Peter King of TheMMQB.com certainly thinks keeping Garrett in Dallas is the right call:

Garrett took over as head coach for Wade Phillips in Week 10 of the 2010 season and has gone 41-31 as the team's head coach over the past four-and-a-half seasons. After leading the Cowboys to 8-8 records in his first three full seasons at the helm, many folks believed 2014 was a make-or-break year for the coach.

This season, he managed to bring Dallas to the playoffs for the first time since 2009 and helped the franchise record its second playoff victory since 1996, as the Cowboys defeated the Detroit Lions in the wild-card round. Though Dallas' season ended in disappointment after a controversial call went against it in the divisional round against the Green Bay Packers, team owner Jerry Jones seemingly saw enough progress to reward Garrett accordingly.

Big things will now be expected of this Dallas team going forward, and with Garrett close to signing a new deal, the team can turn to locking up his coaching staff and also working on contract extensions for offensive stars like wide receiver Dez Bryant and running back DeMarco Murray.

The pressure is always on in Dallas, and Garrett will need to ensure his team is a perennial playoff contender. Anything less, and he'll find himself right back on the hot seat.
