Football fans around the nation shuddered as Jones and Christie reveled in the Cowboys’ NFC Wild Card Game victory over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, sharing group hugs and unrequited high fives in the owner’s box at AT&T Stadium.
Christie, a lifelong Cowboys fan, flew to Dallas for the game on Jones’ dime. The International Business Times’ David Sirota claims the all-expense-paid trip to Jerry World could come to haunt the governor with potential ethical violations.
As for Jones, whisking the governor out for Cowboys games continues to be more than worth the price. Christie is Jones’ rabbit foot and muse, and judging by his comments during a Tuesday radio appearance, the Cowboys owner will have his friend schlepped to Green Bay on the backs of the world’s five remaining white rhinos if it means another playoff win.
Speaking Tuesday with 105.4 The Fan in Dallas (h/t ESPN.com’s Todd Archer), Jones cited Christie as a major part of Dallas’ success this season.
“He’s part of our mojo,” Jones said. “I want him there all the way.”
Jones went on to endorse Christie for president.
“I’ll tell you, if he’s got enough mojo to pull this thing out, he ought to be looked at as President of the United States,” Jones said.
Christie, on the other hand, attributes Dallas’ good fortunes to his sweater game. According to CBS New York, Christie has worn the same orange sweater to five Cowboys games this season. Each have ended with a Dallas victory.
“Here’s the thing,” Christie said Monday during an appearance on WFAN’s Boomer & Carton show. “The first Cowboys game I went to this year, I wore the orange sweater. As it turns out, there are some people in my universe who believe that [the sweater] then becomes a good-luck thing.”
Whether Christie will make it to Green Bay for the next round of the Cowboys’ playoff drama has yet to be seen, but don’t bet against Jones stuffing a Gulfstream with porterhouse steaks and coral pullovers to sweeten the pot.
