Randle Doubtful for Preseason Game vs. San Francisco 49ers
Friday, Aug. 21
Clarence E. Hill Jr. of the Star-Telegram reports Randle is unlikely to play Sunday after suffering the setback in practice. The third-year back, who spent the past two years playing behind DeMarco Murray, stated he just hasn't been able to shake the problem and wants to get back to full strength.
"It's the same thing I had earlier," Randle said. "It flared up on me again. We will get it right. I always want to be out there with my teammates. I can only do what I can do. It's just something we have to keep fighting through."
The report also notes Darren McFadden is questionable as he recovers from a hamstring injury. Both backs missed the team's preseason opener.
If McFadden plays, he should step into the first-team offense. It's an important year for him as the game-breaking flashes he displayed early in his career vanished last season as he averaged just 3.4 yards per carry with a long of just 25 yards for the Oakland Raiders.
Should he sit out again, Lance Dunbar will probably get most of the action in the backfield. Either way, the Cowboys need Randle to get right before the regular season rolls around. Otherwise, the rushing attack is going to struggle.
