A knee injury forced DeMarco Murray to the sidelines and Phillip Tanner and Joseph Randle to fill his shoes in the first half against the Washington Commanders on Sunday night.

Murray is questionable to return, according to Brian McNally of the Washington Post.

If the injury keeps Murray out of action for a lengthened period of time, the running back who takes over his role will be a viable fantasy football option. With Lance Dunbar battling a hamstring injury of his own, expect Tanner and Randle to battle it out for Murray’s touches.

Neither back had a chance to distance himself from the other in the first half, but Randle did the most with what the Cowboys gave him. He reeled in two passes for 15 yards, including an 11-yard reception. Tanner only touched the ball once, and he carried the ball for just two yards.

Prior to Sunday night’s game, Tanner had recorded just 10 yards from scrimmage (and a fumble) this season, and Randle hadn’t touched the ball. Unless one is desperate, neither looks worth a start just yet.
