On Saturday, TMZ Sports passed along comments from the two-time Most Valuable Player, who also discussed the potential for Elliott to receive a lifetime ban for future violations.
"Let's just hope it doesn't get to that point," Warner said.
Austin Knoblauch of NFL.com provided details from the league's investigation into Elliott's alleged actions involving Tiffany Thompson, a former girlfriend who made domestic violence allegations last July.
The league wrote in its statement it was "of the view that there is substantial and persuasive evidence supporting a finding that [Elliott] engaged in physical violence against Ms. Thompson on multiple occasions during the week of July 16, 2016."
There are signs an extended legal battle, perhaps similar to the one involving New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady following the Deflategate saga, could be on the horizon, though.
Elliott posted a message on social media Friday night saying he "strongly" disagrees with the decision:
Meanwhile, Adam Schefter of ESPN provided an update to the situation Saturday:
There's no doubt losing Elliott, the league's reigning leader in rushing yards, for six games would be a massive setback for the Cowboys offense. While the team features a solid backup tandem in Darren McFadden and Alfred Morris, that's still a step down from one of the league's top playmakers.
That said, it sounds like the situation is far from settled with less than a month before Dallas kicks off the regular season at home against the New York Giants on Sept. 10.
