Linebacker Rolando McClain, who is set to test free agency in a little less than a month, is reportedly facing a fine for a failed drug test.

ESPN's Adam Schefter and Todd Archer have the news:

McClain, the No. 8 pick in the 2010 draft, enjoyed a solid 2014 in his first year with the Dallas Cowboys, recording 87 combined tackles, two interceptions and 1.0 sack in 13 games.

Although Dallas faces a handful of potentially expensive free agents, executive vice president Stephen Jones, via The Dallas Morning News' Jon Machota, has expressed interest in bringing McClain back:

However, this news changes everything.

McClain may only be facing a fine, but teams are going to be far more hesitant to sign him to a contract now that he's one step closer to a significant suspension.

Radio host Jeff Cavanaugh put it simply:

McClain, who suffered multiple head injuries down the stretch of the 2014 season, likely lost himself some potential suitors. He will still attract some interest after a good season with a rejuvenated Dallas defense, but he's operating on very thin ice.
